@Alfie_ Strawberry Hill which I purchased as a bareroot from Style's had around 6 or so basal canes in a perfect open fashion.. either it was a nice specimen from Styles or the rose is know to produce basals like that..
Welcome newcomers and previous-lurkers to this new thread. We are greedy for photos of your roses/gardens/companion planting/garden-helpers; so keep posting 🥰 As @cooldoc mentioned our wishlist keeps getting longer and longer; this rose gardening is addictive 😈 and detrimental to your bank balance 💷
Oxford. The City of Dreaming Spires.
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils (roses). Taking a bit of liberty with Wordsworth
@Alfie_ No, that would only be 1 rose there, you wouldn't want to contemplate that with a climbing rose... it's only do-able with roses that you intend to prune back hard to about 1 foot each Spring.. then you will have a compact but a fuller head of blooms by midsummer.. I've never tried it in a pot, and remember they have staff to deal with it, but probably worth the trouble if your pot is big enough..
Forgot to update on growth at the weekend. No buds yet but long shoots on Lady of the Lake, also some leaves that look a bit unhappy after the last (hopefully) big frost, but nevermind!
@newbie77 - they've started hatching out and wiggling their tails!
@WAMS what gorgeous Hellebore! Ive been battling rot in the centre of some new ones which seem more sensitive, urgh. Hopefully under control.
Lots of growth here, potted roses especially. Ive been feeding and mulching. I need to repot summer song asap too - all my potted roses got new bigger pots this year, with drip trays for summer, but I ran out of bagged soil just before that one! Ive planted a couple of my recent sale bare roots from Trevor too as they weren't heeled in long. Nice Little roots already though! Peach melba is now planted.
Shalott leafing away. Ive been tying it in. Needs a few more trims at top. The clematis behind on my black niger is a lovely purple Alpina, Willie, I always look forward to it. My Armandii apple blossom is finally flowering!! Its taken a few years! Its covered. Its being chobbled by something causing damage which causes mouldy patches so post flowering will have to see what can be done. I think I will put another up the otherside to meet it, and pot the straggly climbing Hulthemia there till it gets a bit bigger and healthier. Zephrine Droughin is further back and finally getting going! No roses nearby to keep it healthier... This is designer sunset, an accidental mix up from harkness a few years ago (totally wrong rose but super service, replaced and I got to keep this too) I moved it as its a patio height so surrounding border was too tall and potted it and it loves it. Its always got these beautiful glossy leaves and its a really good bloomer. Not one Id have ordered from pics, but its rather grown on me!
A Warm Hello back to all the greeters. @Imprevu, Belgium would not be a good place for me- death by chocolate
and all. It is too humid outside for the gardener and not humid
enough for the garden. What a waste. A good day to read through last
year's thread and have a hot chocolate. Here is mine:
@Marlorena , I don't take any cuttings.
Somehow I believe the flowers last longer left on the plant. Spend
the summer outside anyway. Does your Sangerhausen/ The Wren come with
fragrance? Looking at your Mutabilis, I wonder if I made a mistake
ordering it. It was you btw who inspired me to get it in the first
place. But with a much smaller plant pic.
@Herbloom , with envy I look at your
Purple Lodge/ Palais Biron. Not looking at @Nollie 's blooming one at
all. Mine is one stem only. And that one is in the path of the fat
pigeons on their way to the bird feeding area. I put an obelisk
condom on top.
@Wynken , will you be able to stick to
the guidance of your garden planner? Sometimes it feels as if you
need a plan A so you can deviate because of all the flowers that
magically appear in your shopping cart and make a better plan B.
@Eustace , your encouragement for pics is
all I need.
Standard Musquée Sans Soucis from near
and far.
To add to @JessicaS apple, here is
prunus subhirtella autumnalis. It did flower in November and
December, too.
Last autumn's purchases waiting in
their pots for a final home. After the trial period.
To brighten up this grey day. Lavender Dream in front. No name red in the back. The white in the back is Mme Georges Bruant.
I can see the photos, I like your summerhouse very much, I think I could live in that @ElbFee
Hope 'Mutabilis' does well for you, no idea about winter conditions in Hamburg, a freezing winter might keep it shorter.. Your Prunus tree is just lovely.. as are your delightful borders..
Lots of things happening there @JessicaS I've not had armandii for a long time, I have a different type now which should be flowering soon..
Looks fine to me @Mr. Vine Eye .. going to look great this summer.. can't wait to see it..
Re photos, I find refreshing the page brings them up if they are not showing.. for some reason there is sometimes a delay in seeing them, no idea why..
I am much taken with 'Bring Me Sunshine'.. I know not everyone is enamoured with it so far, but it shines ever brighter in my estimation and I feel sure it will become top rank amongst David Austin roses once it goes international.. Like so many it seems versatile, shrub or small climber which is what I'm doing.. the long cane is twirlable and I notice it has broken laterals all the way down.. I also love the new foliage, a mix of slate bluey/grey/green/ and copper..
