Wondering what you all think of my GG, is there hope? I have been squishing aphids but I need to be careful with the small and delicate leaves. This rose looked it’s best when it first arrived back in July 2021, which isn’t a great sign! What else can I do to help it? It’s been fed and mulched.
@agnasia Doesn't look very good does it?.. gone backwards.. Tell me.. Was there anything planted in that position before you put the rose in? if so what was it? Is there anything the other side of the fence do you know? What have you fed it with?.. have you sprayed it at all?
There are some remedies, but see if you can answer those first.
This border was dug out of the patio, so nothing was here before. I will have to check what is on the other side of the fence. I think it is a shrub, although there is a tree nearish.
I have fed the rose with David Austin rose food. I have just given it one spray with an organic spray, I will have to check the name of it tomorrow.
Hi @Marlorena, I was curious after reading that you had lots of roses in your shady border, as to what they were, as I too would like to include more that tolerate shade. Thank you.
So I’ve had a look this morning and the tree does back on to where the rose is planted (it’s multi stemmed). I guess that probably explains why it’s not doing well @Marlorena and I don’t know why I hadn’t considered that! I guess I just focused on what was in my garden rather than what was also adjacent.
Cramoisi Superieur, a carefree early bloomer. This was evergreen over winter. The disadvantage of not defoliating is the old leaves yellow and fall in spring, plus carry over some blackspot to the new ones:
Things hotting up in the east garden..
Ivor’s Rose and Harlow Carr just visible behind:
Stormy Weather blooms open fast:
Soul will soon catch up:
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
Lovely stuff everyone, lots of interesting plants.
I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your cat @dabolem
I quite like your (possibly not) Crépuscule @Nollie, it looks quite ornamental and the rest of your garden is looking lush and strongly coloured, beautiful photos.
I thought I'd show some of my new potted roses. This is one of my first two 'eye' roses, Babylon Eyes. Somehow I didn't see that giant poppy seedling when I was stood next to the pot. Florence Delattre; hoping this will be a dirty lilac colour. Google has it as pretty much every colour. An experimental rose.
It seems to have been a rather wet spring here. The ground ranges from squidgy to squelchy and I had to dig up and repot my new new buddleias before they completely rotted. I might have to rethink that planting idea. I might buy a second Reine des Violettes to replace one of the buddleias. La Villa Cotta is planted in the same area and seems over the moon to be a shady bog rose.
More new entrants, another popular one Odyssey
Margot Koster, the second of the new polyanthas for this year (both impulse purchases from RV Rogers )
Rose de Alhambra, a relative of Rose de Rescht I found at Jones the Rose. I thought this would be a nice bench side rose but forgot that the rose in the ground next to it is Port Sunlight. I'd decided not to extend the pink with orange display in case it was vulgar but have unwittingly done it again .
I bought this for my shady border to replace Our Dreams which seemed to have flowered itself to death or some other inexplicable condition. In a pot first to gain some height and let the ground rest. Souvenir de Mme. Auguste Charles.
Lemon Blush, new Alba for the shady border. In a pot to gain height in the first year and also I need to move an aconitum in autumn which I think will be deep and hard work. Will wait till it starts to die back.
I have two other roses new in pots, Pink Leda but it is still in leaf bud and Orpheline de Juillet which is impossible to photograph, growing in a lanky Gallica-like way. Having just looked it up again, I might need to rethink its planned space in the garden, looks to be quite a big rose.

@Imprevu
love the foliage on Silas, I've got an own root coming along..
Superb @Nollie as ever..
I didn't get the warmth promised, so nothing much opened, almost but not quite.. it's a rare year I don't get at least one bloom open in April..
California poppy made it though..

Would it be best to move GG?
This is the spray I used.
