What wonderful roses, so much to admire but very perilous for the credit card. I already have 65 roses which is already 15 too many. Doubtless there will be some filleting at the end of the summer but I never seem to reduce overall numbers.
@Rojas what a coincidence, I was considering Salma Es-Saïd to replace MIP too since I want to try some Generosa roses from Guillot next season. They describe the scent as strong and wafting, is that true? Slightly concerned about the crisping though.
A question to those who grow Ghislaine de Feligonde.. usually it’s obvious but I can’t tell whether it will rebloom with just snapping off the spent buds (like I can do with Marie Pavie and a few others) or if I need to prune back to the next set of leaves to induce reboom. Thoughts?
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
@Nollie Great to hear that you have thought the same. The scent was much stronger in full sun last year but the blooms crisped on the same day. May be it was a new bareroot and we had dry last year. I am thinking to have it in morning sun only and will go to the same place where MIP in. I have kept the pot closer to the wall so currently it gets evening sun only and the bloom lasts longer. Scent in strong but not sure about wafting yet. I will observe more and report.
I can’t believe all the lovely blooms on this Climbing Iceberg (thank you for the id @Marlorena) that I didn’t know I had. It’s popped out of the leylandii hedge and I’ve no idea where the main stem is, therefore it has never been watered or fed and we’ve lived here for 3 years 😮 Must be tough as old boots.
been raining atleast for 4hrs everyday for the last 2 days.. hopefully today as well...
The humidity has brought out the best scent in roses.. was dazed sniffing all of them... difficult to pick a favourite.. but was partial to Jubilee Celebrations strong fruity scent..
Twice in a blue moon..
This is more red and mildly scented to be a WS 2000.. their website does not show WS2000 now when I checked.. (dewilde.nl)
Always you..
Rose de rescht.. can anyone with this rose confirm if it has the same feature (scent) as with the resins from moss rose when brushed against the sepals..? Mine definitely has.. added bonus? Was obsessed with finding a strongly scented but repeating Moss rose after I fell in love with them in my last outings at Wightwick Manor and DA gardens.. was pleasantly surprised when I found that on RDR as well...
Crazy Fashion (Nirparfum)..
Rachel/ Augusta Luise is definitely scented this year..
@cooldoc Do you think your red rose might be 'Thomas a Becket'? it rather looks like it from that single bloom.. very thorny if it is.. All very nice..
@CatDouch Your Iceberg is a marvel.. I hope you manage to find the source eventually.. Your Roald Dahl has a wonderful colour, I don't think I've seen it before like that..
@Nollie Either / or... but you do need to deadhead.. I missed one year and hardly got any as a result.. but I don't like the look of stems that have been snipped without being pruned back to a bud on this rose, so once the cluster was over, and it does hang on to old blooms for a bit too long.. I took the trouble to take the stem back, which takes some time on a large plant, especially if not within easy reach.. Not long after, each cut will produce a new shoot with clusters of buds..
..fresh stems for August rebloom.. ..and into October.. [different year]..
.. Salma Es-Said does have an MIP look about it doesn't it.. interesting rose..
@Rojas, I look forward to hearing from you how SES does this summer. I’m also going to trial Mme. Eugene Marlitt, which is possibly the heat tolerant bourbon known as ‘Maggie’ in the US. I often pit one rose against another and see which comes out tops!
@Alfie_ I got WS2000 in error from dewilde last year, a happy accident as it turns out. I’ve not seen it so red as yours, but weather does funny things to bloom colour and scent and mine can be different again to the UK. Many EU rose nurseries are now forbidden from budding the old DAs now as part of their licensing agreement - if they want permission to sell the newer ones that is.
I’ve just rubbed an emerging bud on Rose de Rescht - yes it does have a resinous scent.
@cooldoc, my Yolande d’Aragón is forming new buds so it will repeat at least to some extent. Interesting bud!

Collected around 300 lts in my tanks but got lots of shattered blooms and battered companions
Been waiting 2 years for this.
Oh beautiful thing…
