Ohoh, will have a tough weekend... TCL opens for bare root orders on Monday...decisions, decisions
Thanks, ElbFee... I had been wondering! It will be interesting to see which recently-retired DAs may still be available
Ascot is beautiful, Jessica. 😍 And hello from my Jess. These Wiliam Shakespeare 2000 (weird robotic name) blooms are 10 days old.
Amazing Day has started its second flush after barely a break. Eustacia Vye hasn't actually had a rest yet... Nor have Munstead Wood, Lavender Lassie, Evelyn, Liliana or Twilight Zone ... both in constant bloom and with buds to come. Lochinvar... apparently this has a wonderful fragrance but my knees haven't managed such a descent since about 1998. Fairchild has put out one new basal, Love Song two. Silver Shadow, which is a similar colour and which is about to start its second flush, has thrown up three, all with buds.
Agree Nollie... a bit of honesty would go a long way! I have zero expectations for the replacement rose tbh... probably broken to bits again since the file says they are using DPD once more to deliver it. 🤦🏻♀️
They must use different couriers because my DA's are always delivered by APC, and the man that comes has been delivering my DAs for some years, and he's very good.. he probably thinks ''not another one!''.. we often have a joke about it..
I kind of get the ‘bran’ as musky Marlorena, reminds me of doing the bran mash for the horses in my youth! Scent memory is a powerful thing.
I have been perusing the TCL website this morning, they have Bring me Sunshine as their newbie DA plus a lot of ‘retired’ ones too, Jude, MW, LEH. Obviously continuing to go their own way and ignore the licensing rules! Those interested in the UK could always try and slip a couple in with their order and see if they notice. I swore I wouldn’t order from them again, but I do want my mislabelled/dead roses replaced so doubtless will slip in a few more and cross my fingers.
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
I shouldn't really call it ''musky''.. as musk is sweet... ''sweet musk roses''.. ..as bran is devoid of sweetness, I shall be calling it bran in future..
I will certainly have a look at TCL, it's just once you've paid for delivery becoming greedy with the roses is too easy. I do like new-to-me roses, such great anticipation in the Spring. And with TCL you have the added surprise of mislabelling and identifying what they've actually sent.
I did send DA pictures with an email yesterday Marlorena but didn't ask for a replacement, I've just received a reply saying I'm getting a free one though. Which is great service but I don't generally want 2 of anything. Still I'm sure I'll cope.
Thanks for the link to the article @Nollie . I have been trying to train my nose up to differentiate rose fragrances. Most of the time my other half and I pick up the same scents from a rose so we can't be too far off.
Most of my roses are preparing for their second flush but a few are still flowering.
Rhapsody in Blue
Wendy Cussons, old rose and lemon scent, one of my favourite fragrances.
Criterion half standard which started blooming very late this year.
Yellow Dream. Medium strength Myrrh scent.
Red Abundance. Lovely dark velvety red flowers, very pretty new foliage, but no scent and very black spot prone on its old leaves.
Don't grow up - grow sideways.
Gardening in the West Midlands on a mix of neutral loamy sand & Victorian building rubble.
Oh I disagree, bran does have a sweet, nutty aroma to me, often musty rather than musky perhaps, if it’s been lying around too long in the feed room!
TCL also have some of the Generosa roses I was looking at, at half the price of Guillot - I might just gamble on a few.
Oh me too @LateralBreaks, my nose has been in training for some years now and has got so much better at distinguishing the various fragrances and the hierarchy from top to heart to base notes. As well as reference points - what things smell like, I use the notes of the growers and various perfumer’s ‘fragrance wheels’ like this one..

I have been very happy with my initial purchase but my last order from TCL wasn't great. Quality was very poor. I would only order from them if it is a variety that is not available at usual places.
I hope Tuincentrum Lottum do offer the still under patent classics again. It would be great if Alfie, PeterAberdeen and others still had a way to get Munstead Wood if they wanted.
Argh, the risk of over-ordering is real, Tack. I already have several from Trevor White coming, along with two from Dicksons and a replacement from Harkness. You can also now order bareroots from RV Roger, whose catalogue is quite dazzling. Been very happy with the three I got from there this past winter (Kathryn, Forever Royal, Fragrant Plum- ) and I wonder what other treasures they are hiding up there in Yorkshire! More purples, please...

@Tack
Did you ask for a replacement or not..?
Reading the Penelope Lively updates with interest; seems disappointing so far at least in terms of damage and the leaves.
@ElbFee I’m with you on Draga Frayla / Hallie — a little fried at the moment but makes a nice pop of red in my border:
@ohdeereme, last one of my Roald Dahl in a pot, photo taken today (Olivia Rose Austin behind):
