Miranda is starting its second flush after the first one was fried in the heat in June. Blush noisette has a least some flowers continuously. Amande Paternotte has had the best rebloom of my roses so far this year, though that's not saying much.
@Eustace@Tack lovely yellow roses.. could you tell me more about the fragrances for Jean robbie and Faustinia.. Julia Child is good but strong consistently for me..
Welcome back @newbie77 . It all looks very colourful and I'm sure you'll enjoy sorting it after worrying for so long, a very good outcome I reckon. Hopefully you had a great trip too.
@cooldoc Faustinia has a great scent, stronger than AbFab, very aniseedy I recall. Currently have zero sense of smell because of Covid so can't give you any more refined a description than that. The blooms are thinner and a great deal more fragile than its pollen parent both to frying sun and soddening rain. I find it an extremely pretty lemon yellow without gold tones.
Great work there @PeterAberdeen, you've really got the bug and the vision to make the most of it. A certain dutch retailer has recently sent me the forbidden roses
Both my tricksy roses are showing themselves at their best, and so they are reprieved...again Dames de ChenonceauxThe Prince
Hi all! I would like to draw on your wisdom again if I may. Stems on my Gabriel Oak look a bit unusual I think. On side is a normal dark green but the other is rather dark, almost black with a tinge of red at the very bottom of two stems. Is this normal?
And that broken bark - does it mean I'll need to cut that stem down in winter?
@Mr. Vine Eye I saw on last year's thread that you grow beautiful Royal Jubilee. How bad is it in terms of balling? I am in West Yorkshire and it rains a lot. I really like that rose but not sure there is any point in even trying...
@cooldoc Jean Robie has a pleasant fruity fragrance, not overpowering, but a good one. The flowers seem unaffected by the intermittent rain and sunshine. The petals lose their yellow colour and turn cream as they age. I don't have JC, so can't compare with that. I'm planning to get JC this bare root season.
Oxford. The City of Dreaming Spires.
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils (roses). Taking a bit of liberty with Wordsworth
Is The Prince a difficult one? I wondered if it would be a good alternative to MW, although I don't think the fragrance would be as good and I already have Falstaff anyway. I so desperately need to find MW.
Thinking about possibly a Gabriel Oak as well. I've made a space!
Slowly building a wildlife garden, in a new build in East Yorkshire.
Thank you all for your kind comments: I just used unused items i.e. edging stones and gravel from another path, that's going to be redone.
It was interesting and fun. Yes, it has come along way in the year - but you guys are wonderful as to advice and pictures and tips that inspire. It has given me the confidence that I did not have. I have gone from 'Oh, it might go wrong and be a disaster' to "Oh Give it a Go'.
If I have only one piece of advice it is: Start something, then you have to finish it, so I have a number of projects on the go in the garden that I have started so I NEED to finish.
Thanks to all of you who give advice and encouragement so freely - you all know who you are.
@salo.daria RJ does ball, not awfully. I’ve got a few brown blobby balled blooms at the moment but this summer has been non-stop rain. I can’t say I’ve ever noticed it before.
It’s nowhere near as bad as Bathsheba, she’s a mess!

@salo.daria that looks normal to me.. they do have discolouration where they touch the ground..
