DA unasked-for replacement of Penelope arrived, unbroken and without rust as far as I could see. Been deadheaded after a fashion in a couple of places but still has about fifteen buds.
I wonder if they are going to persist with this "release one at Chelsea, one at Hampton Court" next year.
Hi everyone.. busy with re-location.. eldest going to Grammar school which is a bit far from current address.. hence have been cutting down all the roses after their flush so that they are easy to transport... still enjoying a few blooms and few others loaded with new growth and buds which will need to be cut down soon unfortunately..
Will await the new DA reviews from all.. a bit disappointed TBH.. as they could'n breed a good fragrant rose despite boasting about the 100K seedlings they trial... well I know it's not easy, but the discontinued ones does not have a replacement in terms of fragrance.. Last years release was not too great either for fragrance.. both are good for flowering.. Elizabeth has a strong fragrance when the stars align properly.. Bring me Sunshine starts off with good Myrrh but loses scent quickly.. could be that I am judging them harshly..
Regarding Harkness.. and their mislabels.. this is the replacement they sent me this year.. Supposed to be Platinum Jubilee.. will know once they fully open.. good old rose scent though.. I had asked for a Registered name but the answer I got was "Will get back to you as soon as we have the info from nursery" and this was in May.

LouisXIV.. wonder if @ElbFee is consistently getting a good scent with new purchase.. it is in bloom always but the scent was med- strong only a couple of times..
Congratulations @cooldoc and best wishes for starting grammar school to your child!
House move is such a busy stressful time. Hope all goes smoothly for you.
Congratulations @Mr. Vine Eye for great school performances. Children are very lucky to have you as teacher. Hope you will get some well deserved rest over summer holidays and catch up on garden and allotment.
Hello everyone, long time lurker here, thought it was time to show my face as it were
So grateful for all the posts I've read in the past two years. Thought I'd try to put pics of my Penelope Lively here to see if you think she's rather on the meagre side? The blooms are actually due to be snipped off and nowhere near as fresh as they look there, which leaves me with no new buds at all. This is my 4th purchase from DA this summer, and all have been much smaller than before. Pah!

I’m looking forward to seeing how all the Penelope Lively’s get on. Is this the first time they have split the launches, I can’t remember?
