@WAMS oh dear, im glad I didnt order it online if its arrived like that! I better watch out for 'spray damage' when picking one at the gardens then....
@Alfie_ thats a super looking sceptred isle, i kept eying that but got queen of sweden instead... very tempted again now!
My new Ascot waiting at my parents has flowered, cant remember if I shared the pics but definatly Ascot this time! Gorgeous.
Loads of new basal growth allover the garden here, especially the potted roses which is great. Sweet Syrie has a bunch of little red pimples popping out at the base too, I think I can say for certain the liquid Empathy feed was a hit then!
@Marlorena yes it does look a lot like Chandos B. QE II doesn't have much of a scent though in comparison when I was there. So strange to send an email saying they have renamed it to something that doesn't even remotely resemble HP. That's interesting about the breeder's codes. Also, I did ask at Hitchin if they had it and the woman said they didn't have any at the moment. She didn't say it has been renamed to QE II (and they had lots of those there). I should have queried that email with her but she looked exhausted and said she had been hybridsing in the tunnels all day so didn't want to quiz her.
Just seen Cottage Memories sell HP so if I decide to get a second will order through there. Yes so pleased with the Scep. I - very strong myrrh scent which is very similar to WOH.
I find it odd that rose sellers mess about like this. Why rename any rose? Surely that just makes everything more complicated, so that roses are not what they seem?

Based on what I have seen at Harkness myself I don't think it has been especially when the lady on the till is part of their breeding team as well. I just think the customer service person got it wrong I would imagine:
Disorganisation and disassembling seem rife. Why not just say a) adverse weather has unfortunately caused some bullnosing and rust, but it will grow out of that and/or b) sorry for the mixups or poorly grafted roses that die on you, we just can’t get the staff. A replacement is fine, but a bit of honesty also goes a long way.
The deluges continue here I’m getting really bored of living in a dripping rainforest. Please, please stop now! Sorry, that must be galling for those experiencing drought..

Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
Robert Calkin did work for Yardley's, Chief Perfumer, so he has that background to his advantage.. Mind you, he did come up with a detection that I've often wondered about but couldn't put my finger on.. Bran.. I think it's this that I often refer to as ''musky''.. not sweet..
