Lovely pergola indeed, @Perki. I’m sure it will look great covered in roses. None of my clematis are doing particularly well. I suspect it’s something to do with the soil being too dry, but not quite sure. Sweet Summer Love has a lot of potential and it would perform much better in more suitable conditions. However, it does have very small flowers and most of them are at the top of the vines.
Thanks I am leaning towards Iceburg for the left hand post with Clematis Sweet summer love planted with it, dry soil isn't a problem here quite the opposite that if it keeps raining I'll float away . Not sure on the right side Alexandra Girault does look nice and I like the look of the flowers streaming down , also Lilac Bouquet and New dawn I try and stay away from soft pinks but they are appealing. What are the chances of a New ramber/ climber from DA seems a while since the last one
I do have another small pergola with a wisteria sinesis prolific and Generous Gardener and clematis on , unfortunately the collar of the post are starting to show signs of rot . That one of the main reasons I built a new one and I adore Wisteria even though the frost usually gets them. I did want something different on this one but wisteria / clematis and roses are hard to beat
Started out nice - and we got it done. Even Agatha decided to be biddable today and didn't run off with anything. Brush night tonight as she is off for her haircut tomorrow. So no more gardening this week!
Hope Desdemona appreciates the effort.
That Harlow Carr standard is incredible, @JessicaS .
Mum now wants me to recreate the picture from the DA Handbook, the one with the two Rambling Rector's growing up an arch. I have a spare arch and so now we add another two roses to the list. As this list is growing I may indeed try TLC - wonder if they would send me the DA's roses? Anyone with experience of them doing this?
Nice pergola @Perki and lovely garden paths @PeterAberdeen. Here, the rain and the wind are bent upon scattering the petals of the roses. A collage created with today's photos: Golden Showers, Eustacia Vye, Darcey Bussel, Sweet Honey, Timeless Charisma and Gertrude Jekyll.
Oxford. The City of Dreaming Spires.
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils (roses). Taking a bit of liberty with Wordsworth
enjoying everyones pics from a different time zone..
@Rojas You need to open up your garden for DA lovers (ex-lovers who hate the new marketing stunts)..
@PeterAberdeen I cannot believe how you managed to do all that and transform your garden within a year..
@JessicaS They have replaced all the newly discontinued Austins with available varieties.. I don't remember seeing any discontinued ones either..
Lovely pergola @Perki I remember Marlorena's comment on aphids falling over you if it's predominantly a rose based pergola.. wondering the practicalities of the same.. not sure if others have had similar experience with Aphids etc..
@Eustace@Tack lovely yellow roses.. could you tell me more about the fragrances for Jean robbie and Faustinia.. Julia Child is good but strong consistently for me..
Potted Munstead Wood still going strong. MW always one of the last to crisp but temps heading into the late 30s now, so even it’s beginning to suffer. Our pale-skinned Scottish house/dog sitters are going to get a nasty shock when they arrive tomorrow - as doubtless we will when we arrive in Manchester on Thursday!!

@PeterAberdeen that really is an impressive achievement, I’m sure Agatha appreciates it! Well, you can try hiding a few DAs in the middle of a larger order, a few have been successful that way. They are banned under licence from supplying any to the UK, but sometimes these processing and picking orders seem to ‘forget’ 😉
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
I am back after my time away from garden. Happy to see that I haven't lost any perennials and my lovely Hydrangea and Acers are in perfect condition.
Garden is lush green with all the rain in my absence. Lawn has never been so green in summer. One thing I had forgotten about are how many weeds will grow when I am not around, there whole garden bed is densely underplanted and there are meter and meters of bindweed everywhere. I think the mulch I used before leaving had weed seeds as well. I am seeing lots of weeds which I had not seen before in this garden.
The cut flowers have reclaimed the patch where I had planted roses in spring.

@PeterAberdeen, I am amazed at your landscaping skills.
Love the pergola @Perki. It will be a show stopper with roses on it.
@Eustace, beautiful collage. Great collection.

Blackspots and weeds are in full swing.
