..something seriously amiss there... I notice you had wool on the top of your pot.. I read that they're sending out potted roses with wool covering that you plant with the rose as it's biodegradable.. I didn't get any wool on mine.. perhaps I should complain? where's my wool !..
I'll happily swap the entire thing @Marlorena . Do you have rust? Do you generally do anything about it? I have just got rid of my worst culprit, Timeless Purple, because it had started to show some. I don't expect to see it this early in the season, later on I just defoliate.
@Tack No, no rust.. the foliage on the one I received is perfect so far, and no sign of bullnosed buds.. If I find rust, and it's only minor, I either leave it, or pick the leaves off.. depends how bad it is.. I've had rust on young roses before and not seen it when mature..
I have recently purchased 6 Austins within the last few weeks and some came with wool and some didn't
Lastest three arrived today with Scepter'd Isle arriving in the best condition of all three:
Champagne M with lovely pink hues in this cooler weather. Really nice in a vase:
Does anyone have Lady of The Lake that could kindly comment on how they find it? I need two climbers; one for an obelisk (which I have sorted now) and for a large arch. I would like the one for the arch to be a repeat rambler (smaller flowers) which would need to be a medium size I think. LotL seems to fit the bill and I like the look of it.
Oh and I remeber seeing some comments about Harkness roses online being a bit disorganised etc. I had the strangest encounter with them. I have their Hamilton Princess which has done really well in my garden. It has the type of scent I love most too. There is space next to it for another one so I go online and it is not listed anymore on their website. I then email them asking why it is no longer listed. They then emailed back saying "We have changed and rebranded the name to 'Queen Elizabth II' rose. I was very sceptical as this rose looks nothing like HP and infact, isn't event he same colour when you look at the pictures online!!! When I quesioned this the lady emailed back and said the pictures needs updating. This was months ago and it is still there with the wrong picture on their website. When I went to Harkness in Hitchin the other day QE II was in flower and 100% isn't HP, it looks exactly like the picture on their website So bizarre.
Rose thread lurker here. Interesting to see the new DA Penelope Lively roses so far. I received mine today and it is in good condition with no noticeable rust or breakage. The buds are quite small and one or two look bullnosed - might just snip those ones off. It came via DPD and had a woolly cover over the soil too. Just need to find a place to put it now!
@Alfie_ I just looked on Harkness roses website.. and the rose photos they have for Queen Elizabeth II looks to me like Chandos Beauty.. do you see a similarity?.. I notice they do not give a breeder's code for QE II rose, which they should do.. the code for C Beauty is 'HARmisty'.. and for Hamilton Princess it's HARzinc...
The breeder's code cannot be changed even if the commercial name changes..

They're not really making it easy for us to keep deciding to give them our money, are they?!
