Some full garden pics. Doesn’t take long to photograph! 😄
Love the way Scarborough Fair closes up on an evening.
Eustacia Vye doing the best she ever has, and I’m pleased I moved that sage over here.
Apricot last year, Ghislaine has decided to try pink instead.
The Generous Gardener, now that it’s learned a trick to find the sunshine, it’s given up on growing lower down. However clematis Comtesse Du Bouchaud is kindly filling in the gaps. Biggest she’s ever been.
Lovely corner @owd potter! Is your Falstaff in full sun? I have read that it’s suitable for shady spots, but I can’t decide between Falstaff and Souvenir du D. Jamain, also said to thrive in shade.
It’s disappointing to see that Desdemona crisps in hot weather, I need a white rose suitable to grow in a pot for a gift to my cousin, but her balcony is in full sun from earlier afternoon till sunset.
She absolutely wants a white rose, any idea which one I could buy for the above situation?
..great to see garden shots @Mr. Vine Eye your Royal Jubilee is really established now, and that rich pink really stands out there... and Kew Gardens of course.. exemplifying why I love that rose so much and miss it terribly..
and it's raining... I like the zingy green of alchemilla with my dark red and deep pink roses @Marlorena, I'm eccentric like that... Falstaff is on the east side of my pergola @dabolem, so gets full sun until around 2pm when the sun goes behind the structure. It's in 3rd year now and seems to be doing better this year, it has displayed a straggly and leggy habit for 2 years with weak stems unable to hold up the heavy blooms. It has always flowered reasonably well tho', and the colour of the blooms my phone camera does not do justice to
@Daniel Rutherford your roses are crazy healthy, clearly giving these fabulous Austin's all that they need to thrive... I'm not sure I've seen a bunch of Austin's in such rude health and vigour.. Do show us more when in flower, esp. that 'Harlow Carr'..
When we look at these, it's no wonder they're so popular..
I only wish that I've started rose gardening much earlier. It's sad to see those fried blooms.
Salma Es-said: Struggled last year in the afternoon sun and blooms fried. In a pot now and nice fruity fragrance. May be a replacement for sickly Mme Isaac Prairie. Constance spry: before deadheading
After deadheading 125+ flowers
Lovely Evelyn @ bottom, Antike @ top: Radio Times: Lovely sweet fragrance WS2000: looks purple and I could not detect much scent and then we always struggled to detect scent from dark roses! (Munstead Wood, Falstaff, The Prince etc) L D Braithwaite - Rich pure red colour Falstaff: Gabriel Oak: Gertrude Jekyll: Abraham Darby: Rescued these after seeing dark clouds. Fingers crossed for some good rain.
10 garden friends and their OHs have
left after 2 intense days of sightseeing and garden inspection. 30
degrees, luckily some wind, still no rain. Some roses going over
really fast. Other holding up surprisingly well. James L. Austin and
Young Lycidas as well as Petit Prince hold the colour well and have
huge blooms. Wollerton Old Hall and The Pilgrim are unbothered by the
heat. Charles Austin fades quickly to almost white but does not
crisp. Perfume Flower Circus barely lasts a day. Same for the peonies
which is really a shame.
Started to cut roses because they last
longer indoors than outdoors.
Good news, Rose des Cisterciens has
appeared in its soil crater. Will strictly keep up the watering
regime.
@Tack love your Soul, Prince and Proper
Job. Which do you rate as the strongest scented?
@Pitter-Patter, your cake looks
delicious. I am completely useless in the kitchen, but love to eat.
In case you need guests ;-).
@Edhelka, do you have a paternoster
lift garden? Where do you keep all your lovely roses? Such a variety.
@WAMS, love your Kathryn too. It really
has unusual petals and colour. Is yours fragrant? I cannot reach
mine, burried among poppies. Note to self, you must, honestly, leave
more than 5cm of unplanted soil around any rose. Stuff will grow over
time even if it does look bare in early spring. My Stanwell Perpetual
lives in full sun so cannot help you regarding its shade-ability.
@Mr.Vine Eye, how short is short for
you on Desdemona? I might have to move her to the border front sooner
rather than later.
Still 5 pages behind but want to show
roses. All of my roses are at least medium scented.
Petit Prince finally going over but new blooms and basals coming on nicely.
Othello has some growing up to do.
This one has the most intense honey scent with a bit of almond and myrrh. Will snip it and place on my bedstand. This will make wonderful dreams, I am sure.
This is a very good rose for a shady spot, only once flowering though.
@Marlorena thankyou but to be honest all my roses haven’t had a lot of attention from me for the past year or longer. Their getting well established by now tho so that will help but I’m putting how they look more down to the fact we haven’t had rain here now for weeks and weeks, as well as the fact their has been none even half strong winds throughout spring to damage anything.
I’ll deffo show more when their all at their best!
