'Forever Royal'.. such healthy foliage.. it gets chlorotic in Spring after the winter, and benefits greatly from an acid food.. I use vitax azalea and it works wonders for this rose.. 'Sophie's Perpetual'.. blooms just going over.. this is a non stop flowering rose ..
I was at the garden centre today looking for a rose.. well, what else?.. the only one that looked in good condition was this 'Vanessa Bell'.. now I've had VB before for some years, then deleted, then missed it, so it's back again.. looks really good with lots of buds..
Poly passed west of my home. Lucky me. @Marlorena, looking at your roses, I wonder what I do wrong. Sophie had a couple of blooms and fell asleep afterwards. Same with Royal Celebration. They have sun, water, fertilizer. I even speak to them. Any suggestions to encourage ongoing blooming are highly welcome.
Is Poly that storm that seemed bad in The Netherlands @Elbfee? I hope all is well. Edit; crossed posts.
Encouraging that WS2000 can take your level of wet @Nollie, mine coped fine with yesterday's English deluge. Falstaff is off my list! So pleased to have full water butts again here.
@ElbFee No idea, but here my 'SP' has been flowering non stop.. which I understood is how it performs usually.. it strikes me as a China type of rose so I would expect that kind of repeated blooming.. Mine is in a pot for now, and it's been well fed and watered..
I've had no rain here, very dry.. we don't get much in this area from June to September these days..
I have started to prepare garden for my time away. Done extensive weeding, then mulched most borders, only one left to do. This time I have gone for bark chips type mulch. A lot of deadheading is pending. And then clear under apple trees, mow the lawn, pot up nandinas and a few more things. And then finally watering.
Lots of lovely roses and gardens here! Im really looking forward to visiting DA gardens and the shop, although suspect its going to be 'dangerous' I like Royal Jubilees look too and have few dark pinks. Looks sold out online though, assume shop likewise, pity.
My report on its a wonderful life post rainshower is still very positive. his bloom that was going over was unscathed by the rain. Ill pot it up next weekend if I can successfully evict the current tennant to its new home! Bone dry here again, Wild Rover and Koko loko have definatley perished, pulled out dead twigs. Both I think planted bare root into spots and dryer / overhung by shrubs which would have been fine for established roses but not bare root. Ive lost a couple of roses on that obelisk through that, but peach melbas taken where bridge of sighs failed and I think stormy weather will go out of its pot next to where wild rover didnt. Waltz time grew fine there! Tying in clematis and cutting out ceonothus has left a nice space and stopped overhang issue.
Quick question from the rose experts after an unfortunate couple of days…..
We have had super strong winds and my rose which is in a bit of a wind tunnel has been completely defoliated bar a few leaves. Should i cut it right back to buds by the base and pray is comes back or just leave it looking all straggly and depressed
I would probably prune back to where the stems are thickest, to just above an outward facing node.. If I wanted to be fussy about it.. it encourages vigorous regrowth, which is what you'll be wanting.. There is no need to prune any lower..

William Shakespeare 2000, in the adjacent pot, only has one bloom just now but didn’t blink:
