You inspired me @WonkyWomble to make a beef stew with dumplings on top. Pot too big for us so a couple of friends are coming for lunch. A new 'maison de repos' has opened nearby and they are having an open day. Waaaay above our budget I am sure, but it should be interesting to visit with a glass of Crémant to boot. What's not to like? Except that only a few years ago it would have been unthinkable to go visit such a place, bubbly or not. Sigh.
Wonky has arrived … she has had coffee and many hugs and we’ve walked around the garden and pointed at things. She has put her outdoor gear on and is out there with her secateurs and loppers and my big trug and she knows where the brown bin and compost bin are. I have been put on the sofa, threatened with being tied down with heavy weights if I move and have been handed the tv controls and told to watch rubbish tv and knit. Wonky and my OH are in charge … apparently 😊 🛋

Morning all. Glad you missed that storm @Pat E it looked like a bad one. Well all my blood tests came back as normal, in fact apparently I'm very healthy! Next step is chest xray and a scan. Chest xray is pointless as I know what is wrong from a previous one. Lungs are full of rubbish and asbestos - in the '60's we spent two summers replacing the asbestos rooves on our farm barns, removing all the broken sheets and replacing them with purchased second hand ones, all work done by OH and me. However I have never had a problem with breathlessness in all the years since then until I caught Covid in hospital two years ago and since then my air intake has become steadily worse - I blame Covid for all my ills! Not sure what the scan is for (tummy region) as the lovely Doc poked and prodded my tummy, couldn't feel anything wrong and no pain anywhere, but my digestive system is completely up the spout with regards to eating anything - I dont want to eat and if I do eat, then even a small amount can cause stomach swelling, noisy activity and general uncomfortable feelings - I blame Covid! Not sure how I will manage a hospital visit as apart from freaking me out (I dont go anywhere or mix with folk, too afraid of getting Covid again, and will need a wheel chair to get me to the necessary departments, plus I usually fall asleep every 4 hours or so - may need waking up for the tests lol! What a faff it all is! Good thing is that no need to do head scan as old brain is working very well 90% of the time which is why I get sooooo FRUSTRATED!! Still to be serious, I could be in Ukraine or Turkey or Syria right now, but instead I am here and surrounded by a close and loving family. I daily thank my lucky stars.
Hi folks, I'm feeling really cold this morning so have tights under my jeans and a tee under my sweatshirt. I'm even wearing fingerless gloves. Heating is on so next step is to light the woodburner. Had a lovely meal out with Secondborn and her partner last night. A new curry house has opened and it was really good (bit too much wine though). Nothing else to do today. Had a quick trip to the SM for some odds and end. Chicken Stew for dinner tonight, already made, so a lazy afternoon/evening is on the cards. Stay warm and safe everyone.
Glad to hear secondborn is back on her feet again @Yviestevie 😀😀😀
Hope Wonky gets Dove’s garden shipshape in return for those yummy looking bacon butties. And delighted to hear Dove junior is now responsive. Hope he continues to slowly recover.
So pleased to hear Mr @Busy-Lizzie is making progress - early days but all moves in the right direction.
I am back to Forkers after a long absence. December was full of fun Christmas-sy stuff. And we have been globetrotting again - just back from a month in Barbados and Antigua. Weather was beautiful (enough to make @Hostafan1 smile), beaches and amazing blue water, lots of exploring (glad Mr C was driving - it was quite an experience in parts), and some garden visiting too. One garden in Barbados even let us in for free as I had my RHS card with me! How’s that for an international benefit.
So nowI am getting on top of the holiday laundry, trying to banish the jet lag, and turning my thoughts to my garden again. I have many seeds to sow, and much cutting back and mulching to tackle, but spring is definitely in the air so I will enjoy getting stuck in.
Wonky is on her way home … she’s worked miracles in the garden … the vine, rises and buddleia have been pruned, the Japanese anemones and mints etc cut hard back, the vinca major infiltrating from next door has been told to mind its manners and some perennials that were waiting to be planted have been given their new homes. Pots have been tidied and all in all it looks as if someone other than the Sleeping Beauty lives here 😂 She’s also tidied out the little grow house, cut back the Grp 3 clems and started to prep the veg patch for spring. She’s a complete star. I can’t believe she’s done so much … I used to wonder where my energy had gone … now I know … she’s got it!!! 🙄 😀
Our pair of resident robins are very excited about all the disturbed earth 👍

It must be stew weekend the as I am planning on a beef stew later. I like mine with herby scones/cobbler.

I hope your problems are sorted out @AnnaB and the hospital visit isn't as bad as you think. People who work in hospitals are usually kind people.
Having a quiet day but I'll do some cooking soon, bag of mince is in the fridge waiting to be turned into 2 or 3 meals.
