No snow here either - thank goodness. Looks very pretty though Busy-Lizzie. Decided this morning not to be lazy so said I'd meet OH on his return walk. By the time I met up with him, he was very nearly home so my walk didn't last very long. Too cold for me to go any further and beside, he had doughnuts for elevenses! Thought I'd potter round the garden later when the sun came out and it started to rain. It was freezing! Caught the squirrel eating my magnolia buds so we're having a major battle but better than Punkdoc's lawn trashing badger I suppose.
Don't know what 5 am looks like @AnnaB, rather you than me. I don't do early mornings at all if I can help it. Average wake up time here is between 8 and 9 am. The delivery men have threatened to send me a text at 6.30 am tomorrow as supposedly they might deliver from 7 am onwards. Hope not anyway.
Lovely looking car @Didyw, bit smaller than our old Bentley!
I'm organising a luncheon for a group of local university students, they're studying Politics and Geography. Their teacher has asked if I can organise a discussion about "The Thatcher Years"...
Incredibly, I've managed to get together with someone who used to work closely with her, and he has some fabulous information he's going to share. He was actually the first person on the scene after the Brighton Bomb went off and escorted her to safety.
However, the teacher also (quite rightly) wants some feedback from people who were anti-Thatcher, if anyone on here would be prepared to share their views, and why they are anti Thatcher on a PM I'd be really grateful. The students are 18 - 19 years old and we only have two hours for the debate/question and answer session, so experiences/views need to be succinct and to the point.
I wish I could organise an all expenses paid visit to France for an ex miner, but sadly that's not possible. But certainly, personal experiences/stories will be gratefully received.
It's all a bit vague in my memory, I know my mum loved her, but I do recall as a new home owner, absolutely scraping together the money for the mortgage, that suddenly being hit by the Poll Tax, didn't really make me a huge fan. And as much as I thought allowing people the opportunity to buy their council houses was a great opportunity, to then not build more council houses for future generations seemed short sighted.... Who knows?
Anyway, I'd welcome any personal insights I could share with the group.
As this is a friendly chat thread, and it's not always a good idea to discuss religion/politics or money in public I think PMs are the best way to go.
Thank you in anticipation. 🙂

Oo that really is a meaty discussion topic @D0rdogne_Damsel. For that age group, I wonder if referencing films like Brassed Off, Billy Elliot or The Full Monty would give a working class perspective of Britain in that era?
It’s a cold one tonight. Take care all those with snow and ice. Full moon tonight - Worm Moon apparently:
no right thinking decent person can think of thatcher with anything other than revulsion. She was a hate filled bigot and rightly the most hated PM in history
Can you tempt @Hostafan1 with warmer weather than we have in the UK, @D0rdogne_Damsel? Having seen the wet weather forecast for Dordogne it doesn't sound that tempting! 😉
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
I was a Dr. working at Mansfield hospital during the Miner's strike. That woman, was determined to do anything to destroy an entire industry. Some hideous injuries were sustained by miners, and i looked after them on ICU. It is widely believed that these men were singled out and beaten, almost to the point of death. Yes, I hate that woman too.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
I’m with you @Hostafan1 and @punkdoc. Thatcher the milk snatcher was hated in this house then and still is now. The mention of her name makes my blood boil. Mind you I feel the same about most Tories
