Sorry you have missed a visit @Dovefromabove but better to be safe than sorry and perhaps getting yourselves stuck in traffic/snow drifts somewhere far from home. I had a message from a friend up country this morning to say that over night some 15 inches of snow had arrived on her lawn - large flat lawn, no wind blown drifts. Her cat gave her a look of pure horror when she opened the door for it this morning but her young puppy exclaimed 'whoopy' and shot outside returning a short while later at a rate of knots and bringing half the snow in with him. It seems that someone is happy with the weather! But seriously, do take special care folks and if out and about do take precautions in case you experience delays. So sorry to read about the results of your snow fall @punkdoc hopefully everything will recover ok without any lasting damage.
I am now feeling very lucky, was up in the wood at the top of the garden, heard a crack, stepped back, a large branch off one of the Beeches crashed down, missing me by a few feet. I have lost a few trees, but could easily be dead.
I have just phoned our tree surgeon, he says a lot of our area is total carnage.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
I’m stunned … Charlie the nurse just rang me … he said he had someone there who wanted to speak to me … it was Rob!!! He said Sarah (the physio?) had done something to his breathing tube and now he has a voice!!! I can’t tell you all that he said … I’m a bit emotional… but he did send his thanks and love to everyone. He is completely awestruck at the care he’s receiving. He’s still on a bit of sedation of course, but it was definitely him being him.. I’m just in bits here … it was so wonderful to hear him (even if the tube thing did make his voice sound a bit odd), and of course Charlie was having to hold the phone for him.
Now he is going to rest, and then he has a yellow rubber ball that he has to squeeze to get his hands back in shape.
I remember Christmas Day a few years ago, I put a speaking tracheostomy tube into a young girl, who had been ventilated for 6 months. She asked me not to tell her parents, so the shock they got when they arrived later, was amazing. One my best presents ever.

Smashing news @Dovefromabove, I'm not surprised you're feeling emotional. I didn't even know that a speaking tube existed. Gosh, that was a lucky escape @punkdoc. Better be careful out in the garden for few days.
Speaking of which I actually managed half an hour in the garden just before lunch. The sun was shining and all our snow disappeared yesterday so I dug holes in the verge under our front hedge and planted five clumps of snowdrops I was very kindly given last night at the garden club. I think most members went home with some. Fingers crossed they'll survive and that nobody pinches them.
It was a very good talk on DA roses and the work that David Austin did to breed them. Very, very labour extensive so not surprising their price has rocketed recently. I must make the effort to visit the gardens in the early summer.
Take care folks if out and about. Glad we're not travelling to the Midlands tomorrow for the family do we'd planned, it's been postponed till end of month.
Definitely worth a visit to DA @Lizzie27 - went a few years ago in June and it was wonderful.
Just back from a birthday lunch with Chicklet (it’s tomorrow but she’s busy with friends then). Lovely butternut squash salad and a good chinwag.
Today is also littlest Chicklet’s last day at work. She has been offered a place on the grad training programme of one of the big telecom companies, but it doesn’t start til September. So she has resigned her current job and is planning to spend the next few months travelling (New Zealand and South East Asia) - the places she would have explored if Covid had not curtailed her year in Australia. She feels like its an itch that needs to be scratched before she settles down to the next big job.
Mr C has been out braving the cold (no snow here since Weds) and has cut back the buddlejas and catalpas. I’ll be wielding the secateurs tomorrow on the raspberry canes.
Lucky escape @punkdoc - snow tends to bring branches down round here too - sounds like a gunshot when they go.
How lovely to hear his voice @Dovefromabove. No wonder you are welling up.
That's great news @Dovefromabove, must have been so good to hear his voice after all the stress you've been through.
It stopped snowing before midday and the road was clear so I went out and dealt with OH's prescription and went to Sainsbugs for us and NDN. Sun came out briefly, then it snowed again on the way home then rained this afternoon and now it's sunny.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

@punkdoc about time the heavens smiled on you 😊
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
