Good morning all. Think I have won the battle with the brambles but the ivy needs a saw and 2 people I think the whole trellis will have to come down. It’s rather old and decrepit and the ivy was just too heavy. When next door had their hideous fence installed they basically pushed all the ivy onto my trellis and it wasn’t up to the job. Fiancé is rather tired after a busy week so we will leave it until the weather improves hopefully sooner rather than later.
Good afternoon all, it’s still fine here and the temp showed 9 degrees C on the car thermometer so still not too bad, but the forecast says the temp will plummet overnight and be a lot colder tomorrow. Lovely orchids. Mine refuses to flower anymore. I hold onto it in the hope that it might one day surprise me, and I rather like the glossy green leaves. Hope everyone has a good day.
Good afternoon all. I've just had a worrying phone call from Jack's daughter. Apparently he was taken into Salford Royal this morning at 03:45. He had pressed his panic button and they had sent for an ambulance. Jack's daughter went up to his and couldn't get in because he had left his keys in the door lock. Eventually he had struggled to the door and taken the keys out but his right leg was not working properly at all. He was taken off and His daughter has been trying all day to get through to someone. She is trying later but what she knows at present is that they intended to do a barrage of tests but did tell her that he will be in hospital for a few days. He was so (apparently) well when I was over there yesterday sharing cuppas and gossip.
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
I managed a few hours of gardening last week - mainly raking out dead leaves and stems - but I did it in several short sharp bursts. Will be too cold for the next few days but I'll try to find some little 30 minute tasks when it's dry.
We've had a little rain this morning but the soil is worryingly dry for this time of year (too dry to mulch without watering first) as the only rain we've had so far since December has been a few days of light drizzle 😕
M-I-L's garden in Yorkshire is a good 2 weeks ahead of mine. Think she's had milder temps and her soil is light and free draining unlike my sticky clay.
Rubee - so sorry I missed your birthday. I hope you had a super day.
Ante - you'll be glad to see the back of the tilers / builders. Hope the house painting goes well.
Hazel - sorry to hear you're still struggling. Hope you can get some more medication to help.
Hope the rest of you are all keeping well and stay warm over these next few days. OH has to take his m/bike for service tomorrow when it's forecast to be a bit sleety. He may get a tad chilly as it's a 20 mile round trip....😁
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
Oh LB - your post wasn't there when I was writing mine. That doesn't sound so good about Jack but I do hope everything is ok. You've almost certainly told us before, but how old is Jack?

Hi T'Bird. Jack was 92 last November. I am suspecting he may have had a stroke but I really hope that he can get out of hospital as soon as is possible because it is such a journey for his daughter to make.
I'm hoping for a garden attempt tomorrow but it has been raining quite heavily here since the sleeting stopped so I'm expecting a bog out there. I really hope T'Bird that you get some decent rain soon because your poor garden suffered badly last year from a lack of water if I remember correctly. I hope that your OH gets the bike to the service station safely tomorrow. I have to 'fess up my ignorance now. I never knew/thought bikes needed servicing but, of course, it all makes perfect sense now.
I received some Jerusalem artichoke tubers today and now I have everything crossed for a dry spell so I can get them planted.

Its Quiz night on TV tonight so I am going to sign out for today. I hope Ante, that you have got everything ready for your sister's arrival tomorrow. It will be so nice to have a family catch up. Enjoy your evenings all and I'll see you in the morning.

LB, sorry to hear about Jack. Hope he will be well.
I had a few mad days, and I'm sorry for my absent from our lovely chat here. I'm finally finished with painting veranda and entrance, so it's all ready for my sister. (Hazel I really don't know how you endure with paint and brushes😁). I'll go to pick her tomorrow afternoon from airport. It means that I'll be whole day tomorrow out , and must drive to and from airport. I'm going to make cup of tea, and I have some marmalade sponge cake.

Superb @Ladybird4 - that's what I'm aspiring to!
Light rain here so volunteering is cancelled
