LB I really hope to hear your eyes are soon sorted. I will be thinking of you. I had to go to the eye clinic in hospital some years ago. Hazel need to do my readings should have done them on the 1st really. Enjoy your long soak I’m having one later. Topbird Wishing you a lovely break away. Ante hope you’re well rested now.Biglad hope the chillis are a success, good having the chocolates though.
It’s another blustery day today, but not cold, so I’ve been able to get out into the garden and do some much needed tidying and cutting back 😁. The ground is soft enough to pull up weeds, so I did some of that, and I’ve a couple of shrubs that were getting rather tall and wide so decided to cut them back to a more manageable size before all the greenery comes through on them.
I hope that your eye feels a little better this afternoon @Ladybird4.
It’s a good feeling to see things starting to come through isn’t it, @Biglad? I don’t know if you find it the same, but I always have much better success growing chillies than sweet peppers. The peppers never seem to grow very big.
LB, those eyes sound painful, I do hope someone can help you with them today and give you something to make them feel a little better. I used to get blisters on my eyes when I went near cats or dogs( allergy) and to blink felt like the eyelids were scrapping the eye itself, so horrible. Rosie, lovely to see you, I hope you and Alfie are doing okay. Really enjoyed the bath, always help me to sleep better. Red Maple, you've been busy outside, it feels good to get out in the garden. I've switched some grape hyacinths to a different pot this afternoon as it was so mild...13 degrees, positively tropical😂 Biglad, it's always exciting to see things coming through in the garden I've found two more fritillaries coming through.
We've done the weekly shop then had a light lunch in the town pub before coming home. We stopped at a GC on the way and bought 6 sacks of compost. I will need more.
OH has drilled holes in my big compost bin. After 2 years the compost hasn't rotted properly and I've realised there is no way for air to get in. The little compost bin has holes in it and that rots down much more quickly.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Yes - I must admit that I do get disproportionately excited at the sight of a couple of tiny, puny seedlings poking through I haven't tried to grow sweet peppers yet @Red maple. I got a decent harvest from one chilli plant in 2021, but that's the extent of my experience to date.
Loads of bulbs starting to appear outside, particularly in pots, but I haven't got a Scooby what most of them are! The red amaryllis on the kitchen windowsill is in peak display mode.
Evening all. We've made it to Germany where we have a rather smart apartment in a small spa town. We're on the edge of the Kurpark so we can sit watch people taking their daily constitutionals.
There are lots of clinics here and many people come for various treatments and to bathe in the salt / mineral waters. It's very quiet at this time of year but is quite popular in the summer. Journey from Hook of Holland yesterday was just over 3 hrs but the heavy rain from lunchtime made the motorway driving a bit unpleasant.
Today, we've sorted out our SM shopping and been for a mooch round the slightly larger town of Lippstadt. Some lovely old timbered buildings and quite nice shops but it was very quiet. It looks the sort of place which would be pleasantly bustling in summer.
Tomorrow we'll walk through the park to the spa and have a few hours being gently poached and baked in the steam rooms & saunas.
Forecast to be dry all next week but turning quite cold - perfect hot tub & sauna weather!
LB - I do hope you're ok. Eyes are precious and I hope there is nothing too seriously wrong - perhaps just some dust that's caused a bit of irritation and inflammation.
Ante - hope you feel better soon too. Sinusitis can be very painful. I second Hazel's suggestion to try steam inhalations - even just steam without anything extra added can be a real help.
BL - glad you enjoyed your lunch - the restaurant looks like a good find.
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
Afternoon all. Well things were a bit scary this morning as I was finding it nigh on impossible to read both my laptop text and the mobile was even worse. I will be happy once I hear something at the eye clinic next Wednesday as to what might be going on. Sight has improved through the day - not perfect but better than first thing. I was out for a Quiz meal today and it helped that I was being picked up. Had a super meal and catch up.
Well done on your new wee seedlings Biglad!
Forgive my brevity and as I know I have missed loads I will address any further comments once I can see properly again. It is all most strange. I'm signing out for today and I'll see you all in the morning.
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
Evening all, Picked the boys up this afternoon and gave them their tea before Secondborn came home to take them swimming. Haven't done anything exciting over the last couple of days. Hoping to get into the garden over the weekend and tidy up some of the dead perennials and leaf litter. Sorry to hear that your eyes are causing problems LB. I have to use eye drops as my eyes get dry and sore. Ante, hope your sinuses improve and you feel better soon.
LB, sorry to hear that you have such problem with eyes. Hope now is better.
T'bird, wish you great time in Germany. Tomorrows walk sounds lovely.
It was lovely day, but I spent it inside. I still feel some pain, so I took a painkiller after dinner. Luckily it's weekend tomorrow, so I have two days to rest. There is a lot of work in front garden, but it must wait.
Topbird, glad you've made it safe and sound to Germany and what a lovely place you're staying at and in! I hope you enjoy the saunas and hot tubs tomorrow, it must be so nice at this time of year not bustling with tourists and having to battle to get in places and about the roads. It will be a nice change for you both.Enjoy the peace and quiet.
LB, oh dear, I do hope your eyes improve soon. Don't hesitate to get yourself to the eye out patients if your sight doesn't improve a lot before Wednesday. It certainly sounds as if something from your cactus potting day has maybe got in your eye and is aggravating it. Better to be safe than sorry so please be careful. And Topbird says, eyes are precious.....too precious to mess about with.
Yvie, you may think you've done nothing but I bet you've been busy child minding which is tiring in itself. Don't underestimate the toll it can take on yourself. Plus painting and pottering about too.
Ante, sorry to hear you still have some pain. Don't overdo it over the weekend, give yourself a break if you can.Hope the painkillers work for you.
Busy, is there any way you can drill some holes in that composter bin? Maybe down the sides to let some air in?
