I finished weeding and mulching the long border yesterday. Also pruned 2 shrub roses, quite a lot as they had got very big.
OHÂ has a Doctor's appointment at 9, then we are off to the city to have his car serviced and MOT'd. Won't need to borrow a car from the garage as I have my French car with me this time.

Good morning everyone .It’s a crisp sunny morning here .LB HVlast episode was amazing . Ante I hope you are feeling better soon . So good that you can work from home . LB good news that your eyes are feeling better .
Bright, clear, frosty and glorious here. However, it means that I won't be doing the session at the local memorial park (again) and quite a few plants are suddenly looking rather sad (again!) It's only the last couple of winters that I've had anything in the garden that I've invested anything in (money/time/effort) so, now, the weather means that little bit more. I'm fairly certain that the 2 cordylines I planted last year are done for and hope that all the fruit bushes haven't been completely conned into thinking that spring had sprung. Who knew gardening could be so stressful Â
Looks like it could be a paint brush kind of day...
Morning all, no frost here but it's bitterly cold despite the sun shining. I won't be doing what you were doing yesterday, Busy, far too cold. You did an admirable job with the border though and it is looking really nice. Ante, try and take it as easy as you can today, plenty of drinks etc etc.and painkillers. LB, glad your eyes are a little better. It would be typical to get to your appointment on Wednesday and they will be back to normal! Nothing much planned for today, so easy day beckons. Hope Debs has a great time on her holidays.
Sun is shining but it is still bitterly cold here Ruby and Hazel.
Biglad, when my Sis was up here last Wednesday, she was mourning the loss of her two beautiful mature cordylines which she has had for several years. We could only decided that it had been the really severe frost combined with the dreadful winds that has seen them off.
Hazel, that was exactly my thought about my eyes and the appointment!
I have come downstairs for a brew as I am reconfiguring my bedroom furniture and I'm so bored with it already that I am using displacement activity to avoid finishing the task!

LB, go steady if you're in shifting mode again😲
Ive decided I'm going to start preparing a large ceramic pot we bought ages ago, for the cosmos. In our last house, the cosmos were beautiful, the soil must have been just right. Here, in this house, they have put on a poor show in the main and last year they were awful( it wasn't just the hot few days that did them in). So, have been researching growing them in pots and I'm going to adhere to the growing instructions to the letter  and see what happens. Cosmos are one of our favourite flowers so want to get them right this year.Â
The Doc has given OH a prescription for a mild dose of Diazepam to calm him down before his pre-op assessment. I feel rather relieved as it worked very well before he had his cataract done.

That's a shame, @Ladybird4. At least my tiny cordylines will be easily replaced if I want to. I'd got in my head that they were fairly indestructible Â
Do I remember correctly that you have orchids? Which would therefore make you the guru  The one that my eldest was given last May is, surprisingly, still alive. All the original flowers have dropped off, but it has sent up a new shoot and the roots seem to be doing their weird thing. Should I be thinking about potting on from the original, transparent, plastic pot or do the roots like to be constrained? Presumably, I'd be ok trimming off the dead-looking, twiggy bits?
Biglad, I would not repot whilst the orchid has sent up a new flowering stem as you may damage the roots and therefore may lose the flower spike. Best wait until it has finished flowering. Yes, you can trim off the dead bits.
Hazel I grew my cosmos in pots last year and they did very well. The advantage there was I could move them around the garden as and when I wished.
