@Pauline 7 received and replied to.
T'Bird as I recall the dams were the Möhne, the Eder and the Sorpe. I think I've probably told you that Dad (post war) was stationed at RAF Scampton where 617 squadron were based. Guy Gibson had a pet with a most non PC name these days and Dad took us to see his grave which was outside one of the hangars where Lancaster bombers were housed. I believe the headstone was replaced but there are movements to have it restored. The history of that period is fascinating to me.

Red Maple, your walk round the reserve sounds excellent. We have  something near here but we haven't been in years. We maybe should  plan a walk round there sometime. My OH was asked to design a pamphlet cover for the reserve a while ago!
Debs, lucky you going to Blenheim palace. Not surprised you slept well after all that walking.
Ante, I,,too, hope all's well with you and that you are feeling a little better by now. Don't overdo things.
Topbird, sounds an interesting day was had going to the Dams. Don't get drunk on your bargain beers😂
Signing out now, battery nearly gone😬 Night all.

I'm sorry you are suffering with health problems @Pauline 7. Shocking that you had to walk out of the hospital.

Glad you enjoyed Blenheim, @debs64. I've never been there. Sounds as though we should go.

We took our friend home from hospital then went to Tesco for the weekly shop.

    Goodnight all.

Spot on with the dams LB! It is quite moving to visit these sites and reflect on all those young men flying at such very low levels (was it 50'?) in the dark with hills and trees all around. It would have been incredibly dangerous even without enemy defences.

I really hope the memorial stone for Guy Gibson's dog is reinstated as was (maybe it already is). There's a photo of me in a carry cot being guarded by my mum's black lab. His name (the same one) is written in large letters and I wouldn't dream of erasing it. It was his name - end of. No way would I use that name nowadays - but history is history and I don't see how erasing it does any good at all.

BL - glad your friend is home.

    Night night everyone.

    Good morning everyone.

Thank you all for concern, I'm much better but still not 100% recovered. Last two day was quite busy, and whole week is in mess. I again have workers in the house, but will explain later when I'll have more time. Today is MOT with my car. I thought that yesterday was Friday, so I went with my car just to find out that my appointment is tomorrow.
I have my tea, and online classes start in 30 minutes. It's still very cold with high wind. Promised warm weather for this weekend is postponed.

Good morning Ante and all arriving later.
Good to see you Ante, was a little concerned but glad it was just 'busy time'. Fancy going all the way to the MOT centre just to find you had gone on the wrong day! Ante, you are too young to do that sort of thing. Some of us are far more likely candidates!

T'Bird, the Barnes Wallis bouncing bombs used in the air raids had to be dropped from approximately 60' so you are right about the low level flying skills required to get them to their targets. Two of the dams were breached but the Sorpe stayed put.
Busy, I hope that your friend continues to recover well at home. There is nothing quite so comforting as having your own, familiar things around you after being in hospital.

Morning all. Had a restless night so was glad to get up this morning. Have a lily's TV on already so may put them on string outside when done. I'm at the hairdressers this afternoon so will be glad to get it cut as it's grown quite long since my last appointment.

Ante, you sound as if you've had a bad week, I hope your car passes its MOT which will be a good ending for you to the week. That's reminded me, we need to book our car in for its MOT, due in a couple of weeks I think.

Busy, good to hear your friend is back home now, and hope he makes  a good recovery.
