Good afternoon all. My friend who had her hip op today has been keeping in touch letting me know how she is. I have a feeling - may be wrong - but I might have said knee op sometime ago but it is definitely her hip she has had done. She says she is being well looked after and isn't feeling any pain yet.
Oh Hazel, those little precious items are so much more valued than a lot more of the bigger things. They hold such wonderful memories and a whole history of your two lives together. I really hope that you come across them before too long. My Bestie has had nothing but trouble with BT and her Mum's phone line which needs the panic button connected to it. I'll find out this week if it has been sorted.
Ruby, freesias are such gorgeous flowers and they smell divine. I bet your cake looked stunning. I have golden rod in my garden too. I didn't get much in the way of gardening done as I was keeping an eye out for the postie as I'm expecting some parcels. Nothing arrived so possibly tomorrow.
Biglad, well done on helping out in community projects. I think it is lovely when people  give up some of their time to look after the surroundings.
Red maple, it did turn into a very spring-like day after a coolish start here. Great day for a walk. Talking of Spring flowers, my Viburnum 'Dawn' is at its peak of flowering at the moment and smells divine.
I gave all my orchids a good soak in rainwater I keep in bottles in the kitchen so it is at ambient temperature. Wiped all their leaves too to get rid of the dust. My excuse is I live quite near a busy road so all the dust gets blown into my house every time the door is opened. I'm sticking with that!

Well it is quiz night on TV again tonight and then I'm going to try the new drama on the Beeb. Apparently its set in Leeds.
Ante, I hope today went as well as could be expected and that you are not too tired tonight.
See you all in the morning.

Enjoy OC and UC LB. I’m going to give my shoulder a good soak, it’s the type of pain/ ache that makes you feel sick. So I’ll wish you all a pleasant evening and see you tomorrow.

I'm going to start doing that for eldest's orchid @Ladybird4 - good tip.

It was good to see that some of the bulbs that I helped plant last year have started to come up. The local squirrel population have helped themselves to quite a few though!

Sky Sports for me tonight ;)

Good morning everyone. Hope that you all have a nice Valentine's Day today.
Hazel, I do hope that your shoulder feels better when you wake this morning.
Regarding the orchids Biglad I do this soaking quite often. I leave the pot with the orchid in a bowl which I fill up as far as the lip of the orchid pot (don't worry if it floats for a while and sometimes you have to gently tuck the errant roots into the water too) and I leave them like that for 30 minutes.
    Gardening today I hope

Biglad, when you are out doing your community projects do you work in a group? It must be nice having a bit of a natter, outside in the fresh air doing something you really enjoy and the plus point is then seeing the fruits of your labours.

Good morning @Ladybird4 and all to follow. Fiancé back to work today and I am seeing Thomas and his mom. Not much romance here we leave Valentine’s Day for the young people, and those looking for love. I always thought it was a day to declare love for the first time to the object of your affections? Or confess a secret love? Well I suppose it keeps the florists busy and the card shops.
Fiancé made me a cup of tea in bed and turned the heating up, that’s romantic enough for me.
@Songbird-2 hope your shoulder is less painful.
Hope you all have a lovely day romantic or otherwise. ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

    Morning all (from the CA!),

Yes - it's a small group (normally 3-4) @Ladybird4 and very enjoyable. The local Civic Pride organisation is quite an operation as a whole though, I'm learning. I've just joined another section of it, but the spectre of the looming job will probably put an end to my participation for the spring/early summer :(

Today needs to be a day when I concentrate on my own patch before the weather turns later this week!

@Ladybird4 I've been leaving the orchid pretty dry (very erratic with watering houseplants :() but it seems to be coping with the neglect. How often do you soak them and do you water in between soakings at all?

    Morning Debs and Biglad.
Debs, my brother-in-law used to send my niece a Valentine's card every year when she was a youngster at home. He didn't want her to feel 'left out'. I thought this was quite sweet but I have to say it did not take her too long to realise it was her Dad who was sending them - much to her amusement. I always though that Valentines were supposed to be secret - sender unknown - but nowadays it seems that everyone falls over backwards to have meals, send flowers, chocolates etc. to their loved ones. As you hint at, it is another time when lots of money can be made for the respective 'producers'.
@Biglad I do the orchid dunking about once every two months during late Spring throughout Summer and I do water between times but sometimes it can be weeks between watering. Phalaenopsis (Moth) orchids are very forgiving and are the easiest to grow. I do feed through the summer as well with proprietary orchid feed as normal plant food is too strong.
