I went out into the garden - listening for the postie. Nothing so far and the chilly temperature, despite the sunshine, has driven me indoors for an early lunch.

Afternoon all. It was thick, thick fog here this morning which scuppered OH's plans - he was supposed to be conducting flying lessons. It's now burning off fairly quickly so they've set off for the airfield and he's hoping to get something done this afternoon before overseeing their night flying once it gets dark. Think he's going to camp out in his van tonight as this training is taking place over several days but it's all 60 miles away.

I've been doing some indoor jobs this morning but I'll get a couple of hours outside this afternoon (now it's warmed up a tad!). One corner of the garden is smelling absolutely gorgeous. A large winter flowering honeysuckle is next to 5 viburnum bodnantenses 'Dawn' next to a sarcococca. All in full flower. Noticed quite a few hoverflies busy gathering pollen this morning.

Well done on your volunteer work Biglad - it's all very rewarding isn't it?

Debs - we don't 'do' Valentine's Day either beyond saying 'Happy Valentine's Day'. OH may (at some time in the long distant past) have bought me some chocolate on the day - but I doubt it.
He definitely bought me a gift one year though. It was an ice cube tray from IKEA that makes heart shaped ice cubes. Specially for my G&T's. Probably cost about £1.50 but I loved it and use it to this day. Possibly my favourite present from him - ever🥰
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down

What a gorgeous day . Got a lot of tidying and cutting back done .Spring flowers are coming up .
The garden still looks a bit tatty without the Summer foliage, but at least it’s tidy .
The birds have brought me some Ladies Mantle .Always useful to fill a gap.
We don’t celebrate VD either .

    Afternoon all.

Hazel, I hope your shoulder is better, and that you will find wedding cake decoration.

Rubee, I had exactly the same day yesterday. It was lovely be outside on the sun.

Yesterday was gorgeous sunny and warm day. I was almost whole afternoon in the garden cleaning and pruning, and I sowed basil and parsley. Today is a bit windy so I'm staying inside. I survived two school days, and now is everything in usual routine.

Afternoon folks,  Went to art class this morning in the fog and came out into bright sunshine.  Did a couple of hours gardening when I got home.  All the borders are now weed/leaf litter free and there are lots of bulbs coming up.  It really cheered me up to see the garden looking good.  I also managed to mow the lawns before the weather turns next week.  They emptied the green bin for the first time this year and it's already full again.
Half term next week,  Firstborn is off to Euro Disney on a holiday that was booked before Covid, they have to take it now or lose it.
Do you have a half term break Ante?
Hope everyone is safe and warm.

Hi Yvie. I'm glad that your garden is clean and prepare for spring. Art classes must be interesting. I never grew talent for painting or instruments. We don't have half term now. Ours holiday system is slightly different. We will have 8 days for Easter, but don't forget that our summer holidays are much longer.

OH took me out for a light lunch in a local pub. We had a sharing platter. There was a list of dishes and we could choose 4. It was delicious, hot prawns in garlic and chilli butter, smoked salmon with pickled crisp pink beetroot, whitebait with garlic mayo and lemon, and sweet peppers, olives and cubes of cheese. Then I had chocolate Marquise with caramel ice and cherries. Yum.

This afternoon I raked the front lawn that the blackbirds have been pecking up. It was full of moss. Now it's full of bare patches and looks awful. We'd reseeded lots of it after the drought last autumn. No sign of young grass, yet it had germinated. Will have to be re-seeded again in the spring. But how to stop the blackbirds?

Hello all. Well my bird food finally arrived so I was happy about that. It has still been a pretty cold day so not too much done in the garden. I got a phone call from my neighbour asking if a parcel had been left at hers. I suspect she may have had a message from the delivery people. I went and had a look and sure enough a package had been left on the doorstep in full view of anyone passing by. It was a letterbox flowers package and when I told her it was just a tiny bit too thick to fit through her letterbox I took it into mine until her partner got in from work. He's just collected it. What is it with these delivery companies that they just abdicate all reponsibilty by leaving packages without even trying neighbours to see if they will take them in?
T'Bird, I'd heard about the fog on the weather forecast this morning - sorry you had to suffer that. I do hope that your OH has got plenty of warm clothing if he's staying in the van. Pleased to say that my Sarcococca is also knocking me out with its scent - just like yours! Loved reading about your heart shaped ice cube tray. I was given some pâté once in 2 heart shaped ramekin dishes. I was very pleased to receive them and they are still used to this day.
Ruby, a love the freebie gifts that birds sometimes 'deposit' in our gardens.
Ante, I'm pleased to see that you survived the first two days of the week Well done on getting some seeds sown too.
Yvie, being out in our gardens is the best tonic ever and it is noticeably lighter now. Half term does seem to have snuck up on us but Easter is early this year. How lovely for your firstborn to get off to Euro Disney. That is definitely one that could not be missed.
