We had quite a rough ride on the ferry. There was a big swell in the sea, made it hard to walk on the ferry. I was a bit worried about OH when we went to have our meal but he managed, there were rails to hold. People were being sick. It was a bit late when the steward went round with sick bags!𤮠We were OK.
The short drive to Eastbourne last night was horrid, howling gale, rain, fog and it was dark. DIL has taken the children to school.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Morning everyone,Ā dull and damp here too. Glad you made it safely @Busy-Lizzie. We will finish putting the Xmas decorations away today.Ā Not sure what elseĀ still feeling groggy from this virus.Ā
That doesnāt sound much fun @Busy-Lizzie ⦠I feel seasick on the slightest swell š¤¢Ā Glad youāre safely this side of the Channel now šĀ The sunās shining up here now, but itās quite ābreezyā.Ā
Gardening in Central NorfolkĀ on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Good morning everyone. Ā Itās a very breezy day today, but dry so far and milder. Glad you are back on dry land @Busy-Lizzie after a choppy crossing. Hope you are safely at your destination now after a horrible drive. We put some decorations away yesterday @Allotment Boy, but will leave the trees until 12th night, so another couple of days.Ā
Morning all ( evening, PatE ) Cloudy, but mild and dry. Trying to get used to just the two of us again. Only had two overnight guests for four nights, but seemed like a week, although it was great fun. Iāll take down the decorations today, and sort the bills and paperwork that have arrived since Christmas and just got stuffed in a drawer for later! Trying to have some positive thoughts and plans for the new year, but the sudden and unexpected death of a neighbour has set me thinking about what odds and ends I ought to be tidying up just in case. Not a cheery start, but probably a bit overdue.

OH and I had a conversation on NY Eve about this very thing and about the sort of thing we should cover, depending on which one goes first.Ā It was quite a practical sort of conversation and then we realised what we were actually talking about and laughed and wished each other a Happy New Year!
Glad you made it across without too much discomfort @Busy-Lizzie.Ā You'll soon be back in the hills and dales of Norfolk (so unlike Lincolnshire which, as any fule know, is completely flat).Ā @Dovefromabove may have some Kendal mint cake left if you feel the need.
Very windy here with quite a chilly, strong breeze. A bit miffed when it started raining just after we'd got out in the garden to do more pruning/shredding ( I think OH was pleased though, he certainly put the shredder back in the shed suspiciously quickly!).
I've re-assembled the bird feeders and put them back up but no takers yet. I've also put a new mealworm feeder, which has a clear plastic roof to keep bigger birds away, under the magnolia tree and I'm hoping the squirrels don't eat mealworms? They must be really hungry as I've found them digging up lots of bulbs all over the garden.
Glad you made it safely @Busy-Lizzie, being on a ferry in high seas is never much fun. We once had a nightmare journey back from Holland in a Force 8 to 9 gale which was horrendous but fortunately nothing much makes us sick.
We have those kind of discussions too, @Ergates, or at least I do and OH just listens. He has made me a list of all his passwords which is locked away. Useful as he belongs to so many organisations and charities.
Hope everyone recovers from all the various lurgies going around.
Lizzie27, very good point on the passwords! Just thinking maybe I should put together an email āgroupā for OH to send a message if anything happens to me. Iām sure I can contact everyone that needs to know if he goes before me, but Iād hate to think of my friends, real and virtual, wondering whether I have ghosted them.Ā How depressing. I think Iāll go and put the recycling out, not particularly cheery either!
Still feeling rather tired after all the Christmas excitement so not done much today. Took a wander round the garden and noted all the things that need a trim back, tidy up etc., roll on the better weather, just a dry day would be useful. Did notice that the old hydrangea was shooting 'sprouts', hope it is not a bit early. Christmas decs will come down tomorrow, another indoor day as more rain forecast. Glad to see you made it safely to Eastbourne @Busy-Lizzie in spite of the awful weather, hope things improve for you before you travel on to Norfolk.
Can someone please tell my customers it's January and they're not supposed to be here.... And equally, can someone tell my bank manager there's at least 3 times more business than last year, because I'm too busy making cakes to do anything about anything. š«£š š±š
Did make a delicious Chai Cake today from Christmas Tea, everyone said how tasty it was. I don't often invent recipes, but I needed to use up the Christmas Tea. Very pleased with it's success. š
Have The Lions for dinner on Friday evening, 20 of them wanting "the full works", it's going to be a long night.Ā
Decided no more can be done today so I'm going to plonk in a chair and read my latest book, Wolf Hall, I'm addicted already. At last something to help me unwind.Ā
Sorry you had a bad journey @Busy-Lizzie, January not the best time to be in a boat...
I do keep thinking about a will....maybe I'll get it sorted this year, especially if I get, no be more positive, when I get this house....
Anyway, good evening all, I'm going to bury my head in my book.Ā
