Hugs to Punkdoc. Hope you feel better soon, Dordogne Damsel. Visitors left yesterday, so just the two of us again. Trying to get back to normality, but very slowly. Put one load of bedding in the washing machine, then wasted the rest of the morning writing emails. A late lunch planned, with some of the use up stuff in the fridge.
Well, much as I have very much enjoyed the time off just relaxing, reading, doing some of the cooking (normally OH does it all), normality has come knocking with lots of emails arriving this morning, meeting dates arranged and a growing 'to do' list, at the top of which is to complete the form for our local authority on how the raffle we ran before Christmas went. This is a legal requirement for raffles where the tickets aren't sold and drawn within a venue and for which a licence is required.
Hope your anxieties are ill-founded @D0rdogne_Damsel and that you get your house soon and fingers crossed for you @punkdoc.
Sorry to hear that @punkdoc hope it's resolved soon. We have bitten the bullet and been to plumbing shop. We have ordered a new concealed thermostatic shower unit, treated us to new hose and spray head while we were there, the old one was leaking in so many places, just got to organise the plumber to come and fit it, it's gonna be expensive. We'll probably start taking our tree down, as it's so wet outside can't do much else, we normally leave it to 12th night.
Afternoon all, wet, wild and windy here. Huge puddles across the main roads in the city. I ventured out on a GC hunt, had coffee in the first, very noisy and crowded. Only seat left was one of those very high bar stools which is rather a laugh to someone of my small (very) stature. I made a valiant effort to the amusement of those nearby but didn't feel very safe so quickly got down when a table became vacant. They only had Xmas decs on sale so drove off to the next GC across the other side of the city where I bought 6 bright red primulas to cheer the garden and myself up and a new pruning saw plus secateur set. Nothing like a bit of GC shopping to lift the spirits!
I also met a friend who works in one of the GC's who turned out of have broken her ankle back late September - quad biking with her grown up kids! She was lucky it wasn't worse, quad bike turned over, she fell in the ditch (full of water) with her ankle at a funny angle. The 999 operator asked her on a scale of 1 to 10 to estimate her injury to which she replied a 10, get me out of here! She was still using a crutch today, 3 months later.
Glad you enjoyed your Bordeaux break @D0rdogne_Damsel. At least you see Charlie most weekends I think which is good.
Hope you get the raffle form sorted @didyw, how odd, not heard of that requirement before, is it a new one?
I must get the guest bedroom sorted @Ergates before our DIL arrives next week - if she does. She's got a broken wrist but is determined to get to work somehow because she has a deputy starting. With the railstrikes and not being able to drive, that's going to be difficult. I've offered to act as chaffeur if she can get to Bath. We'll see.
Hello @Busy-Lizzie, better to be early for a ferry rather than too late! But a bit boring, just sat in a queue, where are you sailing from? Is it very busy today? Going to be a bit choppy out in the Channel I'm afraid.
Hope you have a safe crossing @Busy-Lizzie - and your onward journey to Norfolk. Sorry you don't have yesterday's weather! The lottery form is a legal requirement @Lizzie27. If you are going to sell lottery tickets to the general public over a period of time you have to have a licence and you have to have printed tickets with that licence no. on it and who the organisation running the lottery is. But if you are running a raffle where all the tickets are sold at the event and drawn at that event you don't need a licence and can just use cloakroom tickets. We sold the tickets for ours at the Christmas Lights Switch on, through various shops and the library and throughout the day at the Christmas street market and panto characters drew the raffle at the end of the day. You then have to fill in a form showing how much was raised and how much was deducted in expenses. We decided that our bus. assoc. would cover the cost of the licence and the ticket printing so all we raised was given to the local foodbank.
Strong winds and pouring rain put any chance of outside activities on the back burner today, so pottered around doing indoor jobs while trying to persuade the dogs that they really did need to go outside for a pee more regularly instead of waiting until they were bursting and shouting for me to drop everything to open the door. I'm not so fleet of foot these days! Hope you crossed the channel safely @Busy-Lizzie and have arrived safely in Eastbourne with your family members. Glad you and Charlie enjoyed the Christmas break @D0rdogne_Damsel, hope your property problems get sorted soon and you can make plans for the future. Good luck @punkdoc hope that the hospital can get things sorted for you pdq. Hope all other Forkers are keeping well and managing to avoid the nasty bugs that seem to be flying around just now.
