Shame about your garden and lack of sleep @Ante1. Gardens are resilient and it is the time of year when they go to sleep. I was amazed at how well mine recovered after the hail tornado in June.
Glad you have good lenses, LB. Those quiz questions sound impossible.
The man who was going to repair the drive is too busy. CB told me of another man, the one he had to do his terrace. He said he'd come and have a look this morning.
Cold and frosty again. More leaves to rake, or mow. Another bed to mulch. Veg garden needs clearing up. Landing needs painting. My photo album needs finishing so they can deliver it before we leave. Plenty to do but when it's cold I feel like going into hibernation.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Morning all.ย @ante, poor you I have every sympathy for,you and the poor battered garden. As Busy says, they are resilient spaces and will come back in time, but the initial devastation is disheartening and sad. It's horrible to see. Don't overdo things, take it steady away and it'll get sorted. We are due some Northerly and Easterly( awful winds for the North East ย here) winds here this week with snow forecast all down the North East coast. Not looking forward to it. Busy, take it easy too, you don't have to do everything straight away, pace yourself to do a little, bit and then take a rest. LB, well, what can I say? I knew the answers to those questions๐ค๐คญ๐คญ๐ Think they were dragging the 'most obscure facts barrel'....๐ฌ Need a cuppa,so,see, you all later.
Good afternoon, sorry you were awoken by a thunder storm so early this morning @Ante1. Your garden will settle down again, but itโs surprising how much mess heavy rain and winds create. So lovely and warm in the house when we got up this morning, itโs surprising how quickly a house gets cold without any on. Luckily itโs all sorted before the very cold spell we are due this week. It was chillier in town today, with a cold breeze starting to develop. Still, weโve got the jobs done that we needed to do in town, so this afternoon Iโve started on sorting the bathroom out, putting everything back and taking the opportunity to have a cull - there are so many half full bottles of this and that, and stuff that has gone off, so itโs good to have the opportunity to sort it all out. Hope youโre all having a good afternoon and not overdoing things. ๐
LB, luckily I didn't have time to hang my lights , so no damage this time. I started today, but it will last for sure till weekend.ย
It was lovely and sunny day. My garden will recover, there is no huge damage, but I'll spend few hours to clear all the branches, leaves and everything else what came with the wind. Both deliveries arrived, and now I have one rose and two apricot trees to plant. Sorry LB, I know you don't like them.ย
Well, it's time for tea and properly read back. Hope you all had a nice day.ย ย
Sounds as though you will be busy with your decorations and garden clearing Ante. I think the first severe frost and / or big storm of the winter is going to give me a lot of clearing up to do. There are still has lots of leaves, foliage and even a few flowers in the garden which will all collapse into a soggy mess at the slightest turn in the weather.
I also wouldn't have had a clue with those quiz questions LB. Looking forward to watching the recordings of Uni Chall and OC tonight.
Parish Council meeting went very well last night. There were 4 of us there to make our points about the unauthorised building going on adjacent to Grade II listed cottages at the end of our lane.
Several households have already submitted formal complaints / objections to the Planning Dept and (fortunately) the Parish Council is also fully opposed to it. Our district councillor was also present at the the meeting (she's very good and attends whenever she can) and was quite shocked by what we told her. She will also throw her weight behind the matter.
Unfortunately the building is being done by the (fairly new) owner of the listed building who is determined to just muscle his way past all the planning regs etc. He brags regularly about the fact he is an architect and knows his way around the planning system.
He probably does but I don't like arrogant bullies who move into 'my' quiet, tiny village and then throw their weight around. At the very least we'll give him a run for his money. From the previous 3 planning applications (which were refused) it seems the Planning Dept are also determined to keep him in check. He's not going to go away and, no doubt, he'll get more or less his own way in the end - but perhaps we can make it a long and expensive journey for him.
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
Good afternoon all. I've just been having a quick catch up so forgive me if I leave anything out.
Busy, your 'to do' list just saeems to get longer and longer but I guess if you break it down into the individual tasks and don't think about those to come, you will soon be on top of everything again. Have you got the bars up at your windows yet?
Hazel, I would never have had you down as a closet South Park and Family Guy watcher
One of my friends has just sent me a pic of her oversize fleece snuggle blanket. I reckon I need to take a look at one of those as well.
Red M, I need to do that sort of clear out in my larder. I did start on it last week and I came across an item that was best before November 2011!! It was a jar of Kaffir Lime Leaves and they had crumbled to dust! My (feeble!) excuse is that they were hidden behind a number of tins. These, thank goodness, are still well in date.
Ante, I would love the apricot trees but its the furry skin on the fruit that puts me off. Best keep those three new treasures sheltered until you can get them in the ground.
T'Bird, I will be watching the recordings of Mastermind, Only Connect and Uni Chall myself. I need to get some more revision done. I agree with you 100% about these people who think that rules and regulations don't apply to them. I am glad that all at your meeting were unanimous in their opposition to this chap's shenanigans. You go girl in making him have to fight to the bitter end!
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
Ante, I'd love to grow a peach tree, I love ย them. Maybe a little project for next year, would I be able to grow one here I wonder? Just remember to save me one please.....or two.....or three๐ Meant to say, I've started watching some really old episodes of Poirot at the moment, some Ive forgotten about. I'm thoroughly enjoying them.ย LB, go for it, they're lovely. I tried mine on last night and they are so so warm.OH said it suited me too( I like big baggy clothes anyway). I am really pleased with mine. A bit like wearing a dressing gown all day long๐ As for my viewing habits, well......one never knows lol!!!ย Topbird, you and others do right to stop them ....What makes them think they're any different thanย the rest of us who have to adhere to rules and regulations?
Son has told us that 23 is much better today and feeling more like his normal self. Thank goodness.ย
LB, my hoodie blanket is plain grey with the cream fleece inside. Very snugly and cuddly. Signing out for tonight. Have a pleasant evening everyone. Night night.ย
Hazel, enjoy watching Poirot, I always do. Don't worry, I have plenty of apricot fruits on one older tree. ๐ You should try to grow one, I bought two trees New Jersey variety. Apparently they can survive temperatures al to -20โ.
LB, those trees are for my front garden, so I'll plant them tomorrow when I come back from cottage. I don't have blankets like that, but they look very comfy and warm.ย ย
It's time for me to sign out. I'm tired since last night. Wish you all goodnight and see you tomorrow.

They are already sleeping on the sofa.
