Another frosty start but we are promised mixed precipitation from 10 am, so we’ll see. It’s certainly cloudier than yesterday.
I’m looking forward to catching up with GW tonight, too. Missed it last night as there was a programme about Harewood House at the same time which we watched.
It was a lovely afternoon yesterday catching up with former colleagues and the time sped by. So much afternoon tea, too, that we all had “goody” boxes to bring home.
Today, a much quieter day in store for me and hope it’s a good one for you all.
Morning all. Goodness but it's icy cold this morning. Think it must have tried to have a bit of snow overnight as it's all frozen up with the ice this morning. The house was a cool 16C first thing but it's slowly rising. Think I still need a trip out to yours @Ante1 and your balmy temperatures. Don't mind the rain, don't like wind but I'll stay indoors whilst you're out and about with Max and doing work lol! I'll keep an eye on things and eat all your biscuits...🤭🤭😂 We have to pop out into town for a few things including( more) wool. I'm getting through it at a rate of knots here. @Rubee , Oh I love your toy boy doll, he's smashing, well done you. Still have the knack for producing some wonderful creations. @Red maple, glad you had a lovely time with colleagues. I do miss mine catch ups but many have left us now and those left have such busy lives, as we have, and it's been proving difficult to arrange a meeting. Maybe in the New Year.
@Busy-Lizzie, I sympathise with you regarding loss of internet. It's surprising how much we rely on modern technology nowadays and feel quite lost without it. Thank goodness your phone mobile can still connect you. Hope it gets fixed soon. Ive had to bring the birds fat balls inside to defrost. ( stop it @Ladybird4 , LB!🤭) Little robin was trying to have his breakfast earlier on but he couldn't shift them as they are that frozen hard.
Morning all. Another sunny and very frosty start to the day. I think that's now a whole week without the frost shifting at all. Not really looking forward to driving up to Yorkshire tomorrow as they are forecasting freezing rain but needs must. Will try to travel before the rain starts.
We have a couple of things going on here. MIL took a tumble while she was out shopping on Monday. She's OK but it shook her up. Now she a horrid cold and when we spoke to her Wed and Thur she seemed very low and lacking in confidence.
So yesterday I sent OH up to look after her & I'll join them tomorrow for a couple of days. She's perked up no end since her little boy said he was coming up to fuss over her. He says her house isn't very warm. She had a new boiler & TRVs fitted a few weeks ago & she was struggling with the instructions. He's asked me to look at that tomorrow. Fortunately she has a heated throw which keeps her nice and toasty most of the time.
We've also had an issue where a German camp site (that we stayed at in Nov) made multiple duplicate charges to our credit card on Monday. It's not fraud - they immediately sent an apologetic email to alert us to the system error - but most of the refunds they say have been made are not yet showing on our account.
We're talking about €1000 here (nearly £900) so a significant sum. I have had to raise multiple dispute actions with the credit card provider / Mastercard but it's all time consuming and it's not that easy to know what's happening in the background and everything will be shutting down for Christmas soon blah blah blah.... Fingers crossed it all gets sorted soon.
Rubee - hope your bus pass turns up soon. Some admin things are much easier to deal with these days because they can be done instantly without leaving the comfort of your sitting room. But when they don't work they can be a bit of a mare to sort out.
Ante - Saturday is still my favourite day of the week - even though it's several years since I did a Monday to Friday job! Fingers crossed for your team today.
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
I've been doing unmentionables with a sucking thing and a piece of cloth.
Tonight we are going to OH's old choir's Christmas supper and quiz. I wonder how many people we'll know now. It was on hold for 2 years during Covid and has a new director. When OH sang in it it was over an hour's drive away, now it's 5 minutes, but he can't re-join it because of his hip and he is in the UK too much.
A little flock of chaffinchs has arrived to hoover up under the bird feeders and the spotted woodpecker was there yesterday moring which caused a lot of agitated chattering from the bluetits.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Thank you everyone, I'm lovely and warm inside now, but oh goodness @Topbird what an awful time you're having. I hope your MIL is soon over her fall ( although the older we get the longer it takes to recover I'm finding) and your OH can be good company for her until you arrive. Please drive carefully, don't want you having any more troubles. Hopefully the credit card company will sort your money put but, as Ante says, that's no small amount to be in the ether somewhere, instead of in your bank account. Good luck for better times. Busy, hope you enjoy the supper and quiz and hopefully there will be some folks you still know. Covid really messed everything up. I really like your description of indoor jobs!😂🤭 Ive fleeced our three cyclamens ,which, although in the greenhouse, have frozen solid and look awful. I've snipped off the dead leaves and flowers stems and wrapped them up snuggly. I've also laid some fleece over the rest of the plants in there too. Don't suppose it'll do much good but at least I've tried.I've done some indoor jobs and now it's time for a rest.m
Top bird I hope mil will make a good recovery and regain some confidence, it must have been a shock for her. Ante enjoy your warming desert. LB hope you’re keeping warm. I’ve changed after tea. Strictly final tonight but not sure if I will watch it, apparently the ratings have dropped substantially. Hazel hope the flooded area doesn’t take too much work. Take care all.
Good afternoon all. Well I didn't believe it but it has actually rained today - a lot - and the snow has rapidly disappeared. Still there where it was compressed on the drive and then froze. I reckon it could be gone by tomorrow.
Glad that you had such a good day yesterday Red maple. I'll bet that the goody bags went down a treat in round two.
Hazel - that did make me laugh!
Flippin' eck T'Bird. You are not having a good time just now. Your poor MIL. She will enjoy seeing you both - especially if you can sort out the heating for her. Thank heavens for the heated throw. I need to look at one of those except I don't seem to sit down for long enough.
What a pain about the credit card. They are quick enough to scream if you don't make a payment but sort out other things really slowly. In this day and age you would think that all it needed was a few buttons pushed and the fine detail sorted out in their time. I had to ring my card provider a few weeks back as I discovered that they had charged me interest. I have an arrangement where everything gets paid off at the end of each month so that (theoretically) I NEVER pay any interest. The guy I spoke to sorted it out in 5 minutes so not all bad. Mind you it was only 0.11p but its the principle! I don't doubt it will get sorted T'Bird but do keep us up to speed.
Busy, I too wonder how many people in the choir you will remember. It will be a pleasant evening for you both.
Ante, apple pie and mulled wine!!! Ooh yes please. I'll send Al for some - unless you and Hazel have eaten them all.
Hazel, I think your plants will be well protected under the fleece - like us and out outsize hoodie or fleece blankets.
Decorated my saved tree but I'm not sure I'm all that keen - think it looked nice naked! I did get the lovely piney smell though:

Cold and frosty here too. Sunny though.

Thank you T'bird. Hope they will send you many back as soon is possible. 1000€ is not a small amount. Few more days and it will become our currency.
Hazel, hope you are now warm. Here is not so bad, but it's raining. Just to know, I have apple pie and mulled wine for desert.
I have very lazy day, but think it is just what I need. There is few small things to do, but they can wait till tomorrow.
Hope you all have a nice day so far.
