We've been to the hospital for OH's pre-op assessment. As usual his BP and pulse shot up but by the time he'd answered all the questions and the man went off to get copies of all the tests he'd had his BP started to come down. They asked a doctor to have a look at him and he said all was fine.
Then we had to see an occupational therapist about aftercare, how to get in the car, have a shower, what height chair to sit on etc.
On the way home we had lunch in a pub.

Afternoon folks, more heavy rain, interposed with sunshine which made driving difficult with the sun shining on the wet road. My friend drove us to a lovely, fairly remote nursery we know high up on the Mendips. There is a very good cafe next door so we indulged in bacon baps AND cake with coffee which was very moreish although I suffered later. What is the old saying, bellies bigger than brains!!! I bought a DA rose, cyclamen and scilla bulbs.
I'm interested in all the differences in hip op care around the country. My OH was sent home 2 days after the op with just two sticks and was walking with just one after 2 weeks. The physio had him out of bed the morning after to walk up and down the corridor and up and down the stairs so that was certainly load bearing. One day last week, he must have walked about 3 miles, mainly without a stick. The only other aid he was given was a high loo seat and that did prove easier for a few weeks. One thing to bear in mind is that if you have an epidural, which OH had, it can sometimes affect the bladder function if there are also prostrate problems and OH ended up in A&E the week after. Soon sorted though and all is well now.
So pleased that your OH has had his pre-op successfully @Busy-Lizzie, hopefully he might get called in at short notice if they have a cancellation. Good news also for Mr Chicky, we were quite amazed at OH's quick recovery so hope Mr Chicky will be the same.
Best wishes for your son @Dovefromabove, good old mum to the rescue.
Glad the Food Market went well @didyw, despite the rain, which again has been torrential today.
Glad the pre-op went so well @Busy-Lizzie and fingers crossed for a cancellation. Are we all a little bit in love with Moira on this forum? @punkdoc - we thank you for her support so she can carry on doing the great things she does - including looking after you when you need it!
I don't think OH will be offered a cancellation, @didyw and @Lizzie27, though he has been offered a high loo seat! The surgeon said there was no way he could do it before January and he told us to go to France and enjoy ourselves! We leave on 1st November, back after Christmas.

Good morning all. I am pleased that some progress has been made regarding ops @Busy-Lizzie. I am going north instead @Dovefromabove to see how son has settled in Amsterdam. Back in 3 days, let's hope my back will take the many hours on the bus.
Hooray @Busy-Lizzie Light at the end of the tunnel and hopefully you are on a one-way track. This sort of news helps to bear the pain, speaking of which - how are you getting on @punkdoc ?
Overcast again this morning, but the mercury hit 29°C yesterday afternoon in the sun!! It's around 16°C in the mornings. Autumn weather.
Today: A la Saint Crépin, les mouches voient leur fin. I certainly hope so as we have been plagued by flies and mosquitoes since grape harvest - and they are sticky!!

If I've missed anyone out, apologies.
