Why can’t you get through to your dentist, @punkdoc? Are they not answering the phone? Do they have a website with any information on contacting them? I would be very tempted to ring a couple of private practices in the same town, to ask them if they are providing emergency cover this week for your dentist. Many private practices have a reciprocal arrangement to provide out of hours cover for private patients.
good afternoon all. I've just booked 2 weeks in Hurghada. I hope it's better than that last time we were there. Flying out on Friday for 2 weeks. Hugs to @Dovefromabove and family
Hi everyone getting bored now, all this sitting about is not good. The initial lump, (just where the little bit of broken skin is) is throbbing now don't know if that good or bad. Trying to come off the ibuprofen now never took this much even after surgery. Hope your son is OK @Dovefromabove, enjoy your holiday Hosta, you have a lot of catching up to do.
Were you recommended to put ice packs on it ( ie bag of frozen peas or similar)? That purple round the heel looks very like what happened when I twisted my ankle. Can you take paracetamol, often better than ibuprofen especially straight after an injury?
Yes I was reccomended to ice it, which I did do the first 2-3 days. I know everyone says ice but I'm not very fond of that to put it mildly, I did it but under sufferance. I was told ibuprofen because it's anti inflammatory. I very rarely take any analgesic so I think they work well at first, but modern thinking shows they loose their effect very quickly.
I've had a good day's gardening, have planted a new DA rose, scilla siberica, pink primroses and lots of cyclamen. Do hope the deer round here don't wander into the garden as they sometimes do, far too many roses that would make a good meal!
I dont wish to tread on anyone's toes @Allotment Boy but actually ice is not the best thing to use in a lot of circumstances. Ice for strains and sprains but not for injuries where there is inflammation and lymph swelling. Ice freezes the area and prevents the lymphatic (and blood) systems from circulating and dispersing any swelling/congestion. Keeping the area warm with a loose bandage/padding will be more help. Also when you sit down try to raise your leg higher than your hip, careful slow walking will also help to send the circulation 'upward' and help relieve pressure to the area. Hope some of this makes sense. I dont profess to have any medical knowledge, but a life time of dealing with horses and their various accidents/wounds etc has made me very aware of the different uses for ice and warmth. Hope things get easier for you soon, but think you should seek medical advice if you are at all worried.

That's not so good @Allotment Boy. You could try alternating paracetamol and ibuprofen
which worked for OH after his op quite well.
@Dovefromabove, Fingers crossed your son's op went well and you can pick him up soon.
Hope you get to see a dentist soon @Punkdoc.
