Oh dear, poor Nanny Beach and OH. Hope he recovers swiftly and ok to come home as soon as possible. Will be thinking of you. Sorry to hear you are still uncomfortable, Punkdoc, a shame, extraction sites often settle down surprisingly quickly. Are you allowed to start rinsing now the first 24 hours are over? ( unless it started bleeding and you had to start the 24 hours again) That should help. BusyLizzie, the protocol round here seems to be that if you are ‘at home’ to Halloween callers, you have some sort of decoration by the front door or gate, hence the pumpkins and lights round some of the local houses. We have never had any callers ( although the steep drive and steps to the house may put people off!) The kids are usually accompanied by parents these days, and I suspect they restrict their visits to the other families in the village. My son, in his shared student house at uni, was caught out by a visit from the children next door. No suitable sweeties in the house, but the children were sent off with satsumas, and advice on a healthy diet, much to the amusement of their parents.
@Busy-Lizzie round here trick or treaters usually only visit houses that are decorated. We don’t get visitors here, we’re a bit remote, but when we lived in town youngsters, accompanied by their parents, would call early evening. We always had a fun size bag of mars bars at the ready. Never had any trouble, and the little ones thought it was a great adventure 🎃
Hello all, I've been struggling again this week with heavy nosebleeds and painful sinuses, so not not felt up to much, but have been looking in. I managed to get a quick Dr's appointment and another referral to the ENT at the hospital, but can't get an appointment until the end of December. Hugs to @Nanny Beach I hope OH is home shortly, and @punkdoc that your mouth heals quickly oh yes and not forgetting @Allotment Boy, take it easy. Hugs to all in need. I see DD is looking at another restaurant, I hope she doesn't overdo it! @Pat E are you both over your Covid now? @Busy-Lizzie we used to have the youngsters from the village come round at Halloween many years ago, but that has all stopped now. The weather is still very warm but that looks set to change next week, I'm still picking courgettes and peppers! Don't forget the clocks go back tonight!
Hi Floralies. Covid is gone, but we are a bit under the weather. I should feel more perky after a medical trip to Canberra on Tuesday. Hopefully. I’ll be better feeling like chatting again.
Sending positive thoughts to @Nanny Beach and hope everyone who is recovering from an ailment is looking after themselves and not trying to do too much too soon. I'm in awe of @D0rdogne_Damsel. Hope @Hostafan1 is now rested and getting some of those warming rays. I've had a lovely couple of days. I did a couple of stewarding shifts at the exhibition in our local church. The exhibition is fab and we had a treat on Thursday as we also had the Thursday concert on - this time a wonderful flautist with a piano accompanist on the baby grand we have in the church. Those soaring notes rising into the vaulted ceiling were spine tinging. Went for a coffee with my daughter afterwards and we had a good old chinwag. She is a primary school teacher and things are going from bad to worse there. Her pay is in real terms less than it was 2 years ago, she has more responsibility, having to take the curriculum lead in 2 subjects across the two linked primary schools, with no extra pay and an Ofsted is imminent. She knows that Ofsted is looking for reasons to rate the school low as their brief (probably not overtly so) is to get all schools into an academy chain. She is also worried as they are renting and although they are in a very nice house and there are no problems, it is a precarious way of living when one is in one's 50s with two teenagers. Neither of whom know what they want to do with their lives yet! I really felt for her. She was feeling as if she had somehow failed but I pointed out that it was the financial crash that caused them to lose their house, and all the equity in it, in Spain which is why they are now having to rent. Local pubs and farms are worried about losing their businesses in the current financial crisis. But we met again yesterday and got the bus to Norwich (my car still needs its battery charging up) which was lovely for me as I don't normally get to have a look around as I'm driving and sitting on the top deck meant we had lovely views - and a great sunset on the trip home. We went to an art exhibition (in the Undercroft @Dovefromabove), had coffee at a charming place in the lanes and bought a few bits for G'daughter no.2's forthcoming 16th. Lovely.
