Good afternoon everyone who has popped in to this thread!
The weather has cooled down here considerably @floralies hasn't it? Cloudy sky, windy and a high of 26°C expected this afternoon. Heard a sprinkle of rain during the night.
Covid apparently is still rampant as the chemist told me yesterday - he said that there were many people coming in for testing, and they were positive! The tourist season is about to start, so I don't know where we are going with that. Nipped in to Lidl and Aldi this morning (on my magic bike) and I was probably the only one wearing a mask - and Lidl was packed. People at the checkout moaning that prices had risen in the last few days (again) as much as 20% !!
Harvesting is about to begin so: Pour la Saint Martial, le faux est au travail.
We have a high of 13 deg @tui34! Whatever is happening to our weather? Not many people wearing masks in the SM yesterday, we have never stopped wearing ours. We bought some washing up liquid yesterday and it has doubled in price!
Yes Dove we passed Lakenhall on our way to the M11 to get home. I think it's our friends noticing more activity over their area that is more significant.
I think that’s partly because we’re training a lot of our NATO allies to use USA manufactured stuff as they’re passing on their equipment to Ukraine as they know how to use it. We get quite a bit of activity over here too … last week we had a couple of particularly noisy days. I’ve heard theres also a lot of ‘monitoring’ going on.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
I’m glad so many Forkers have enjoyed trips to North Norfolk. A place close to my heart, as it was where my Mum was from. Many happy memories of summer holidays with grandparents there - I even have the beach at Hunstanton as the background on my phone 😜.
We are on a ferry back from a cycling holiday in Holland. Great time on the bikes as always - Holland has amazing cycling. Lots of canals, windmills, pretty villages, roads for bikes only, with no cars allowed …..and no hills 😉. Had a day off to give the muscles a rest yesterday and got the train into Amsterdam - a lovely city for just wandering in.
A waitress asked us why we were in Holland (they are always incredulous that anyone would choose to holiday there 😂). We explained how much we loved cycling there. She replied that when she goes to England she never takes her bike …..”I can’t cope with the fact that cars and bikes are all mixed up on the roads - that’s crazy dangerous” 🤪🤪🤪
Felt like we were in our own version of Springwatch when we saw storks nesting on specially made high rise platforms. Storklings and all. Very special 😍🥰😍
Evening all, we got safely home late afternoon after a reasonable, although long, journey home. It actually rained quite heavily on the M4 and our garden looked saturated when we got home which is good news, apart from the roses that have lost a lot of their blooms. We had a lovely holiday with beautiful weather, good B & B's and interesting meeting with Dove.
We also noticed a lot of noisy aerial activity whilst in Norfolk but assumed that was normal up there! We get the usual commercial traffic into Bristol which has been much busier of late and the occasional military helicopter but not many RAF jets.
Hope it's dry tomorrow, I've got lots of washing to do.
Glad your son's op went ok @Floralies. Stay warm @Pat E and enjoy the tennis all you tennis fans.
