The nice man from British Gas Home Care has just been to fix the washing machine. Bleedin' thing started first time. He laughed when I said " BUT I DID THAT AND IT DIDN'T WORK " As I've no heating oil, he GAVE me an electric fan heater. Bless'im
I know I have said this before, but I really don't want people to think that I go to war zones to be a hero. I have a very specific set of skills, which I often found I could not use to their full extent in the UK and which brought me a great deal of pleasure and excitement to be able to use elsewhere.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
Good afternoon everyone. Grey, windy, dull and cold here. Rain expected - hrrmph! tomorrow and more over the weekend. I'll see it when I believe it!! Swiss ball lesson this morning. Ravenous!! Came home made a spinach quiche plus fish fingers and salad! Lunch is still the main meal of the day. Minestrone soup tonight! I've just lit the fire. It's burning brightly - a welcome light.
@Nanny Beach Our central heating is diesel fired but we just have the 2 radiators on in the living area. On sunny days, they are off but December & January they are on 24 hours at 20°C daytime and 15°C from 10pm to 7am. If the winter isn't too cold we can get away with 500l per winter. Open fireplace which emits a decent heat, but only after about 2 hours when the refractory bricks are hot. We have solar panels but sell the production to EDF as we get more per kWh as we do to buy it. And a conservatory which opens to the living area and on sunny days, with the doors open, it heats it up nicely.
@Hostafan1 We're paying between 1.15p and 1.25p per litre for domestic fuel depending on the supplier at the moment - we paid .74p per litre in November. Petrol and diesel (vehicles) have escalated to about .15p/.20p more in the last week.
I'm glad summer is coming and we can get some fun and produce from our vegetable gardens.
@Busy-Lizzie If it's not one thing, it's another!! Hoping the Covid germs are out within the week and the backlog is dealt with quickly.
As @punkdoc says - "It's a looking day, not a doing day." I'll second that especially as I had a "doing" day yesterday and got lots nipped, clipped and tidied up. Walk the dog and make some scones or pikelets I think - there's a bit of jam hanging around somewhere!!
Enjoy the rest of the day everyone. Spring is on its way! Tui

We know that @punkdoc … folk who go out to such places with the intention of being heroes just aren’t!!! 🙄
That’s the difference … and that’s what makes you, and others like you, real heroes .. whether you like it or not. 😉

@Nanny Beach, what about Biro instead of ball point pen? Even though the biggest seller was branded Bic. I think we are well known for adopting trade names as generic titles for things, even though we know it's not correct must be the rebel in us.

Laszlo Biro invented the ball point pen. I think that's why HIS name stuck rather than the biggest seller. It's only relatively recently that folk have started using the term "condom" rather than Durex.
