Yes, I hope it will be a better year. I'd hope to meet people here after my move in January but Covid has made it difficult, there was a gardening club and a historical society that I was hoping to join but they've been on hold. Also OH was supposed to be here with me for 6 months of the year and I was supposed to be with him in Norfolk for 6 months but Covid has made all that impossible. At least I've been able to see my family as they live in France but a lot of ex-pats here with their children in the UK have found that very difficult.

It certainly helps to have some group activities to join and I have really enjoyed being able to go to dance class, patch group and garden group meetings again since September thanks to masks and Covid passes. OH has been able to play golf again since the first relaxation of lockdown in 2020 and we have the critters, house and garden to keep us busy and amused.
It would have been a different story if we'd moved here more recently and, as it is, we've been unable to get beyond nodding acquaintance with new neighbours in the new builds down the road.

Hello folks, welcome to the newbies and previous posters. Good to hear from you all.
We had a quiet NYE, just the two of us, watched the James Bond film which finished late and then saw some fireworks from the front window (we can see over the valley to the other side of Bath). Decided not to open the fizz after all as it didn't really go with curry!
It must have rained hard overnight but was dry when I did my usual walk and stayed mild. I did the NY Day flower count in the afternoon and took loads of photos. I also cut the leaves off my hellebores and cleared the leaves off the rockery, not an easy job, balancing on the rocks on hands and knees. Small bulbs are showing which always cheers me up early in a new year.
Thank you so much for the friendly welcome. So glad to read that most of you have managed to enjoy this past Christmas week especially in these strange times. I sent daughter and her teenage son off to spend the week with her older children and their families down in the south of England on Christmas morning, which left me in a delightfully peaceful house for a week of simple pottering, snoozing and strolling outside topping up both the bird feeders and the hay supplies for the free roaming ponies - free roaming on our land I hasten to add, not loose elsewhere! This peaceful time will be shattered somewhere around 4 am tomorrow morning when they arrive back (always travel at night), lights will go on, dogs will rush in happy to be home again, car will be unpacked, coffee will be drunk, stories of their family week will be exchanged and we may grab another couple of hour's sleep if we are lucky. (I love them really!!) Normality will be resumed lol!
Do your daughter and her teenage son live with you on the farm @AnnaB? How many ponies do you have? I've had horses on and off through my life, but not any more.

Hello everyone, welcome @AnnaB and happy new year all round!!
I've been outside all day!! Cleared the pond, the terrace, tidied the greenhouse, moved the picnic table, leaf mulched the herbaceous boarder, screened the bins and sorted seeds. Only came in when the daylight was dimming! What a lovely way to spend the day! The cleaned the window so I could see it all! 👍 exhausted now! Just had crumbed lambs liver with with dauphinoise potatoes and spring greens, now stuck to the sofa and unable to move! Have a lovely evening all 😀
