@floralies I now have pictures which I shall resize and post on the walnut tree thread. Could measure tomorrow if that helps.
As for me, @Lizzie27, haven't been to the UK since 2016 but always go to the UK in a car because I always go with treats for hosts and have a shopping list whilst there - damson trees have featured - and the last family visit involved our 2 dogs and our old cat so not to be done by plane. In @Busy-Lizzie's situation with 2 homes, further to drive and no critters I'd be tempted by air travel tho I do really resent Ryanair and would rather go by car.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

Ah, I understand now @Busy-Lizzie. I wouldn't like to drive that far either. Might it be possible to buy an old small car over here and leave it here?. The insurance quote does look terribly expensive I wondered if they'd made a mistake but I expect you've shopped around. No easy answer.
Watched Monty Don's gardens earlier, fantastic escapism for an English winter. Beautiful blue, blue sea, the gardens weren't bad either.
I enjoyed Monty's Gardens too. Stunning scenery and I've always had a soft spot for Corfu because it's where we spent our honeymoon (with OH 1, who died too young). Liked it so much we went back twice, third time we took Daughter 1 when she was 18 months, she loved it too. The sea was so warm and clear. The taverna owners were so friendly.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Hope everyone’s had a peaceful night. We have a clear sky, a bright moon and a very white and sparkling frost here this morning. If you watched Winterwatch last night you’ll have heard CP say how cold it was … well he was right … brrr!
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Bright eyed and bushy tailed this morning for a trip to the lab to get a PCR test for OH who is off to Italy to see his mamma! By the time he exited the sun had come up and it promises to be another sunny day - albeit windy. Saw a couple of dog walkers, one of whom was in shorts! Yikes! No frost but it was 0°C.
Back home for a second cup of tea and a stab at Wordle which I usually do in the afternoon. Oscar Wilde had his say about morning puzzles!!
@Busy-Lizzie It is a long way for you to drive on your own. I like driving and have a big "tank" but even a drive to Italy or to see my brother who lives near Geneva, it's a trot on your own. The big rest areas on the auto route are to be avoided during Covid but needs be!! It take me a good 7 hours to drive either destination. Some places you can only go 90kmph or 110kmph and some 130kmph. Trucks are a nuisance and fearful when they try and overtake each other. I know your drive is a lot longer. Have you thought of signing up to be a Blah Blah driver?
Today is St Vincent. The patron saint of the vintner, vinegar makers and cafetiers. There are quite a few expressions - here are a couple:
Saint-Vincent, claire journée. Nous annonce une bonne année. Si le jour de la Saint-Vincent, le soleil est clair et beau. On aura plus de vin que de l'eau
Enjoy your day and get that washing out @Pat E !!.
Morning all. Nothing special organised today so think I'll do a bit of cooking for the freezer. Might even plant the clematis that arrived last week if the ground isn't frozen.
