I don't understand why one would alter the temperature on your thermostat if its colder(or hotter) outside. Surely a colder outside temp. means your boiler works harder to reach the desired internal temperature and increasing the temperature you want only exacerbates that.

  • Good morning (checks time...)
Productive morning here, including finding £40 of garden vouchers, which were a Christmas gift to us a few years ago. Expiry is 2024, so we're well in.
Hub says he's not quite well enough to sit in the car for the journey to our nearest GC, so I may have the enviable task of having a browse online, while drinking a coffee and keeping warm.
Great colours in that photo @Pat E very retro

    Good afternoon to everyone.

Another Tramontane windy day but sunny and very very cold.

The colours in your photo @Pat E reminds me of those sorts of days when it rains hard and the sun comes out straightaway and gives an eerie green sort of light to everything.

Just as I was sitting down to do the Census online, father-in-law phones to see if I'm home.  87 next month and he confessed he would drive up and not cycle as it was a bit cold and the wind was against him!!  He came to prune my table grapes and give me the same lesson as every year.  Old wood out and leave one new wood branch up and over the wire to tie on later.  Other branches are cut to 1 or 2 eyes.

So, motivated in the morning sun, I finally sowed my peas.  One row of Mangetout and one row of peas peas.  I just need enough for at least one dish of petit pois à la bonne femme late spring/early summer.

@D0rdogne_Damsel  Glad you are going to try and see a GP and get prescribed something that may make you feel better in a day or so.  Are you wearing a neck brace?  We have the same problem down here with GPs not being replaced as they retire.  There was a very good documentary 2 weeks ago on Channel 2 (French TV)  "Cash Investigation" I think it was called - if you can get it on replay.  It was about the health system here in France.  Worth watching.  (Tuesday 4th or 11th January 9pm)

Time for a feet up with a good book now.  Had a fruitful morning (I reckon) - I even did Wordle in 3!!  A walk with the dog this afternoon in the vineyards.  Too cold and windy for the beach today.

    Enjoy the rest of today.

@Busy-Lizzie would it not be easier to hire a car when you get to the UK rather than come all the way back for yours?
It's very expensive. About £40 a day for a small car with Hertz, that is the same as the insurance for me to drive OH's car. £2240. When he has his op I will be staying for about 8 weeks. It costs, including choice of seat, 24€ to fly to the UK with Ryanair, around £50 to take a ferry with my car from Dieppe plus petrol and motorway fees.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
