It was -2.3 last night and again this morning when we awoke at 8.30 am so I put my ice grippers back on before my walk to the shops. To my surprise I didn't need them as it wasn't icy underfoot but the roads were a lot dryer than they had been. It's grey and dismal out there so no gardening today. I've had an email back from a local Councillor saying they are already looking into why the bridge was only half done. Watch this space!
@Busy-Lizzie, I'm a bit confused, why does your French car insurance not allow you to add on a journey to the UK? OH just phoned his and had his Dutch trip added on for a small extra fee - no problem. It's good news though that OH's op is nearer to being scheduled. Sorry to hear about all your grandchildren having caught covid, hopefully they won't be affected too badly.
@Lizzie27 it's the fee for adding herself to OH's car insurance in the UK that is prohibitive, hence going back to fetch her own from France.
Bright and sunny here but perishing cold especially in the naughty north easterly. I have spent half my day doing admin for the needlework club - trying to find a venue for a group lunch as well as trying to find an outsider to do a one day workshop. Have also been hunting saw mills as it seems they are more likely to take my walnut tree than a cabinet maker who wants finished wood to work.
Whilst visiting the chooks to let them out for a wander I went to take photos of said walnuts and ended up wielding a pruning saw on a lone conifer down there. I've decided to raise its canopy to just above head height so we can put a table and a couple of chairs under there for summer shade and also let more winter and spring sunlight get to the lovely coppery hamamelis nearby. That was hard work and I think the tree surgeon can do the thicker branches for me.
Land of the palm trees! The sound of the whistling frogs is a joyous thing, I first heard them on trips to Bermuda where you can use them as a thermometer. If I remember correctly they only whistle when the temperature was above 26C.
I get that @Obelixx, but was confused about BL's decision not to drive her own car over here in the first place. I've probably missed a post somewhere I expect.
I do hope you can find an outlet for your walnut, it would be such a shame for it not to be used for something really good. I had a taker for some box wood we'd had taken down. The lady particularly wanted it to make the trays? for her printing/craft work. I've forgotten the technical term she used.
Alternatively could you get someone with a chainsaw to make an artisan bench out of it?
@Lizzie27, it's because of the length of time I would have to stay over there, I have some things I have to be here for and it's so awkward not knowing the op date. I hate driving all that way on my own, did it last time OH's op was cancelled so had to drive back on my own too. Not so bad in summer, but when it's dark early I don't like it.
Plumbers didn't come. Nor did the drive man.

Enjoy your hols @chicky. Lovely bairn @Hostafan1. Take it easy @punkdoc and good luck with that @D0rdogne_Damsel.
Hope everyone else is OK, or better than OK.
