A bit warmer here today, up to 6C already. More indoor chores, I think, more clearing in the utility room ready for new tumble dryer coming next week. Trying to tidy away a big pile of old blankets I’d kept to cover the furniture when son’s dog visits. Ended up with far more than she will ever need. Usually donate such things to local animal charities, but evidently they’ve been deluged with supplies during lockdown! I’m not the only one who has had a clear out!
No frost here either @Ergates. The big chunk of ice taken of a butt yesterday morning is still laying though. Too cold to be outside and winter’s my garden break time anyway. Just looked in the GH, seems a caterpillar has taken a liking to one of my Spring green plants.
Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.
After 4 days of absolutely no improvement in my neck I succumbed and went to urgence yestrday, with no sleep and continous pain I was in an absolute desperate state. The first thing they did was a Covid test - eek, but negative. Turns out I have a throat infection, which had spread into my ear as well as the trapped nerve so that was causing the awful headache. I left armed with a prescrption for some serious painkillers, antiinflammeries and antibiotics. Unfortunately after taking the first lot I was violently sick, I think just the exertion of the trip ad the pain but I have managed to keep the last two doses down and have slept for 5 hours straight. Still in pain but the headache and earache has eased a bit. Still can't move my neck but I feel there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
Sunny here but cold, I won't be going outside - in fact I may well go back to bed.
I hope you are all faring better than me.

Glad you went to see someone @dordogne-damsel and hope you start to feel better soon. Probably a stupid thing to say, but is it time you looked to alter your lifestyle a bit???
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
Hello all, @D0rdogne_Damsel I do hope you start to feel better soon, you need to take it easy and look after yourself for a bit, not an easy thing to do with the restaurant, but you need to be well for your holiday. Cold and sunny here today, no wind though and -4 deg every night at the moment. Can't keep up with the amount of sunflower hearts the birds are eating, 20kg gone in just over a month. Stay warm and safe everyone, catch up later.
Morning all. No frost here this morning. I stopped at RHS Rosemoor on the way home and treated myself to some dahlia tubers . I HAD to as I had a 10% discount voucher to use. Hugs to @punkdoc and @D0rdogne_Damsel and everyone else who needs one.
Thank you for kind words everyone, back from another snooze, showered and dressed, albeit in "leisurewear". Marks and Spencer's finest though. 😉
I understand what everyone is saying about taking it easy, but it's not my forte. Bizarrely, since Christmas I've taken more time off and stopped drinking wine and tried to eat more regularly and look what's happened! I know it's not really connected but there's a lot to be said for adrenaline. 😅 I do plan to keep the opening hours of the tearoom limited this summer, just opening in the evenings at the weekends. I have also got a really good team around me now, my chef is amazing. If I can just get one more like her I'll be very happy. I'm not taking that other one on, even though she can work all hours I just had a bad feeling. I've no plans to get any bigger now, Ive done all the development I need, the extra kitchen will make life easier too, even if I can just get a student in there washing up all day. So, hopefully a bit more work/life balance. Charlie will be going away to school in September probably so I do want to spend some quality time with him too this summer. And on the ski holiday I'll be enjoying the scenery rather than racing to the bottom. Charlie's friend is coming with him so that will at least give me some breathing space.
I hope you are all doing ok, beautiful sunny day here and from the living room window the garden looks fine.No need to rush out and work on it. 😉

Wow @chicky - looks amazing. I was so thrilled when I saw my first hummingbird on a business trip to Colorado. They are so tiny!
Getting a diagnosis is half the battle @D0rdogne_Damsel - you are on your way to wellness now, but don't be too impatient and rest with a clear conscience.
Lovely bright (but chilly) day here. Off to the little plant fair near us this morning. This is my haul: 2 Galanthus elwessii 'Sickle', a Galanthus elwessii 'Discovery' and a dinky little Galanthus 'Green Necklace'. These were at the least expensive end of the table at £10 a pot. I think we arrived too late for the £4 a pot Galanthus nivalis - but we already have those. At the other end of the table, something just showing green priced at £500! And a few at £200! The Hellebore (Madame Lemonniere) and the little fern (Polystichum neolobatum) were from a different seller. Gorgeous dark pink on the hellebore with plenty of buds. Fingers crossed for another bright day tomorrow so I can get them all planted. Called in at the library on they way back so feet up now with a cuppa and a bit of a read.
