I often work with quite a few talking balloons @star gaze lily (although I call them far worse!)
Looks a cracking day outside. Unfortunately, day 18 of 50 is well underway
Have any of you got any knowledge/experience of recently matured endowment policies? I (possibly foolishly) took one out to cover our mortgage just at the point where they seemed to become very unfashionable
It runs for another 3 years and, according to the latest statement, is on track to (relatively) comfortably cover the mortgage at a projected growth rate of 2% p.a. It is also projected to cover it at -1% p.a. My simplistic thinking is to ask them not to bother speculating with my pot any more. Put it in an interest-bearing bank account for the remainder and I'll take the small profit rather than risk the pot shrinking if there is a market meltdown. Or are these organisations clever enough to eliminate the risk in such cases themselves
@Biglad I don't have any recent experience, I only know that my endowment policy did not mature with enough to pay off my mortgage though it made a large dent. I was poorly advised by the company. Lost in the mists of time now though.
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
News from Chey - after two years of wrangling, scaffolding finally went up outside his flat and it looks as though the leaking roof will be sorted - not before time - and he should be watertight for this next winter.

Thank goodness LB, he's waited far too long. Hopefully the damp will be gone for good and this winter will be much cosier for him. And hopefully it will help with his health problems, cold damp rooms won't have done him any good. Say hi 🙋♀️🙋♀️ to Chey for me.
I'm glad Debs' wedding dress problem is resolved. I wonder if they are detachable sleeves, I suggested that on CC. I'd love to see a photo but maybe they won't want to post one here. I love weddings. I loved my daughters' weddings too. They were on quite a tight budget. D 1 had the reception in my garden with help from friends, family, the Mairie and caterers and D 2 had hers in the village hall by the river, with similar help but catering was done by friends and family and the local hotel school came to man the BBQ, lamb roast, and serve at table. The lamb was supplied by a farmer friend.
Come in for coffee, I've been weeding.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Hazel, my Australian niece had 'Love you to the moon and back' as a wall backdrop during her reception. I hope your electricity has all been sorted now.
