Afties all. I had a lovely meal with my friend. I had beef stroganoff which was heavenly! My friend had what was quaintly called The Honest burger. I am not joking but her meal could have fed us both. I had never been here before but I will certainly go there again. It was wonderful. Lots of choice (my meal was one of the day's specials) and the staff were so friendly and helpful.
The sun is shining, I've donned my gardening scruff, having a cuppa and then I am off to see what I can do in the garden. I did a fair bit of watering at the front of the house before I went out as the trough plants were flagging a bit.
Hope everyone is having a lovely day.

I've been painting more furniture today trying to get the dining table and chairs finished.  I'm currently nursing an infected finger following a bite I had on Tuesday in the park.  It kept me awake last night so I've been grumpy all day.  I now have antibiotics prescribed by our local chemist.  Apparently he can prescribe for minor injuries now to save us having to get a GP appt.  We soon wont need the doctor at all, not that you can get an appointment anyway.

Don't know where the day has gone. I didn't do gardening for very long as it got too hot.

Went to Leclerc and 2 GCs, bought a Lantana and a Gaillardia from the reduced price plants to fill in a gap, spent ages just looking at things.

I hope your finger heals quickly Yvie. I saw that the local chemist here, quite a big one, has closed down.

Sorry to hear that you got bitten Yvie and I hope that the antibiotics work their magic soon. Heard from my friend and her daughter had another lot of blood tests today and although the white blood count is still going down it is not as fast as expected. She has a telephone consultation tomorrow with her Doctor.
Busy, Lantana and Bougainvillea always remind me of my parents, as their garden around their home in Malta was full of them.

  • LB I’m glad you had a lovely time and the food was good.   Obviously one for a repeat visit.   Yvie I hope the antibiotics start to work and your finger heals quickly.  Busy so many places are closing.  Things are so different today.  I’ve been watching the athletics and some of the paralympics.  Pottered today.  I felt quite peckish.  Lily I do hope you sleep tonight, bless you.  I’m signing out.  Enjoy the rest of your evening and sleep well.  I can’t believe it’s Friday tomorrow already.

I'm signing out too RosieBB. I hope that we both get some sleep tonight but if we don't, there is always the Paralympics to watch. I was watching the dressage today before I went out. Those beautiful dancing horses are a joy to watch.

    Evening all,

Another dull day on the dining table!

Looks like United Utilities have finished digging holes and filling them. Routine maintenance apparently. Annoying they removed a bit of the 'ramp' up to our drive whilst digging the pavement outside our house. It wasn't perfect but smoothed it out just enough. Now I've got this to bump over every time I pull onto the drive.

I really am turning into Victor Meldrew but I broke off from work when I saw the van pull up and asked Mr Jobsworth and his sidekick Mr Notmeguv if they could replace the material removed whilst they were filling the hole. The list of reasons blurted out were:-

    - that'll be the digging teams job, not mine.
    - if I do it, I'm liable (for what who knows)
    - I just do the pavement (yes - I only want some extra tarmac on the pavement!)
    - I've only got so much tarmac (yes - I'm sure you're rationed so precisely that you can't spare a couple of handfuls :o. Also, you seem to have dropped some over there and left it!).

He said he'd tell the bloke in charge of the digging team so that they would come back and do it. Chances? More chance of me getting a hot date with Halle Berry  ;)

    Evening all🙂

Had a lovely day pottering round Norwich. The Museum of Norwich was really interesting but (as one who grew up in this area) it really prompted the question "Is it a sign of age when museum displays and personal memories overlap?" 🤭 Some excellent exhibits and displays.  Loved the recreated chemist's shop - lots of lovely smells🙂

Mooched around the shops for a bit, had lunch in Jarrolds, bought some drawing pens and also couldn't resist buying a couple of Cromer crabs from the market for dinner.

However, I was very saddened and not a little shocked to see how many shops were closed in the Royal Arcade. I'm sure @Dovefromabove will agree it is the most stunning Art Nouveau arcade - absolutely beautiful - and has always been the jewel in Norwich's shopping crown (similar to the posh arcades in Leeds @Rubee  and @bluebellsinthewild ) It's 18 months since I was last shopping in Norwich and Covid and general pressures on the high street have clearly taken their toll on the arcade. Hopefully, other retailers will move in soon to restore the lovely vibe. The council really needs to make some enticing offers rent and rate-wise.

OH had a difficult first day's cycling. It was cold and drizzly and he had a fairly strong headwind most of the way. Hoping the next few days are a little easier for him - he looked absolutely cream crackered when he arrived this evening.

LB - glad you enjoyed your lunch out but sorry to hear your friend's daughter's progress is not quite as good as expected. I do hope they can get her on the right course of treatment soon.

Similarly Yvie - get well soon.

As for Victor - you couldn't make it up could you?

Early SM dash this morning for BBQ supplies. Nowhere near as exciting as your day yesterday T'Bird, though I was sorry to hear that the bike ride rather took its toll on your OH. Just whisper those three little words into his ear - Sir Bradley Wiggins!
