    Good morning all.
Thank you LB and Rosie. Good luck with your salads LB and have a great BBQ.
    Sunny here too.
I slept for 9 hours last night, usually sleep for 7 hours. Only 1 loo break, sometimes it's 2.

I think the older arcades in Norwich are suffering because of the big shiny Castle arcade with all the usual popular shops. I love the old shops. I bought the antique silver napkin ring for grandson's christening pressie in one of them.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

    Morning everyone,
A very grey start this morning and definitely cooler. Went to sit in the conservatory with my cup of tea and feels quite chilly in there this morning. Not the forecast we were promised.
Took me awhile to nod off, but I did sleep through. Sorry you had a bad nights sleep @bluebellsinthewild and @Ladybird4 sounds like you enjoyed watching the TV though.
Have a lovely christening day @Busy-Lizzie The antique napkin ring is a lovely gift.
Have a lovely day everyone, hope the weather improves for us all

    Morning all,

Had a good hour in the garden, with just the birds for company, early doors. Glorious day developing here but, unfortunately, I won't be able to utilise it fully as I've been persuaded into running-around-a-field duties this afternoon. The shortage is worse than ever, apparently. Can't think why there aren't more people willing to go out in all weathers so that 22 morons can hurl abuse at them ;)

In better news, my solitary zinnia cheers me up every morning as it continues to unfurl :)

Good morning Biglad. Your zinnia has cheered me up no end too - not that I wasn't cheery already but that picture is the icing on the cake. Thank you for sharing. Can't put salads off any longer. I'm sending up empathetic thoughts Busy!

Morning all. It's a sunny, cool start but unfortunately still quite breezy - from the wrong direction - makes cycling hard work. OH had a better day yesterday because he remembered to stop and eat a couple of proper meals - nothing runs on an empty fuel tank - don't know why he has to keep relearning that lesson!

I went to Oxborough Hall (NT) yesterday which has been undergoing major restoration works after (in 2016) a dormer window literally fell off, slid down the roof and crashed into the courtyard (fortunately no injuries).

They looked to see why that had happened and found problems with decay etc so then they looked at the other dormers - all had similar problems. Then they started looking at the roof, the chimneys, the roof trusses, joists etc and the more they looked the more they found. Latest problem (death watch beetle in beams in the library) was only discovered this June.

An upside to this major project is that they've been able to do a lot of internal archaeology. Floor boards have been lifted for the first time in over 500 years and it's amazing what drops between the cracks. The finds included rats' nests made from medieval manuscripts and a lovely one made from scraps of tudor fabric dropped when ladies were making clothes. The colours on them are as bright and fresh as the day they were cut because they've been hidden away from UV light. Fascinating.

Last night was spent on an airfield outside Boston and tonight we're up to Caistor. Think I'm going to Tattershall Castle & church to look at the historic graffitti - but they don't open untill 11am so I have 10 minutes to catch up with the gossip.

BL - hope the christening goes well. Enjoy making the salads.

You too LB - think the weather should be ok for your celebrations.

Right - must wash up, visit Tesco for some milk & then it's time to hit the road.

@Topbird we love Oxborough Hall ... it used to be a regular visit when Wonky and her brother were young ... so beautiful as well as lots of things to see and do,  ... such as exploring the Priest's Hole etc (she says in all innocence  ;))
We're looking forward to visiting again before long ... we've not really got around to going anywhere much yet ... Hope the cyclist and the 'tourist' ventures go well today.

Hope everyone has a good time at the Christening and associated festivities @Busy-Lizzie :)

  • I went back to bed threw a winter dressing gown over myself and slept for hours.  LB and Busy some salad for me.  I love a variety of salads.  Enjoy your day.  Hazel enjoy your time in the garden with your oh.  Be careful moving the obelisk.  Topbird the preserved rats nests would have been interesting with their bright colours away from the light.  A school friend of mine, Ginny, had a pet rat.  They’re intelligent creatures.  She was a vegetarian at a young age.  Enjoy your time exploring.  Now for a cup of tea.
