@Ladybird4 Have a lovely day with your family and hope you have good weather too.
@Songbird-1 hope the weather stays dry so your furniture varnishing
    @Ante30 good to see you.
Its lovely and sunny here this morning. Will get some wet cloth things on the whirly thing. I'm going to take down the other hanging baskets this morning and also tidy up the pots. The plants are definitely going over early this year.  Will also cut the sweet peas and then get rid of those plants too. Garden bin collection this week so another reason to sort them out.
Saw Poppet3 and his mummy and daddy yesterday. He had great fun in the garden.
Hope you all slept well last night
    Have a good day everyone.

    Morning all,

Chilly this morning in the garden, roasting yesterday for running-around-a-field duties :(

Had a bit of a mare - managed to drop a Solidago 'Golden Dwarf' whilst taking it out of the pot. Only snapped 5 out of 6 stems :'( Hoping it recovers where I've planted it but it was a good shape and flowering nicely. Looks a bit sad now.

Hi folks,  Hope everyone is OK.  I've been pushing a large electric thing over my carpets this morning making them wet and then dry.  Also playing with Lilly's TV.  Sitting down and having a well earned cuppa now.
Those temperatures are really extreme @Ante30.  I've been watching the news about the hurricane that's due to hit in the USA.  How some people can still deny that climate change is a problem beats me.
Hope you have a lovely day LB.
    Hope your plant survives Biglad.
    Happy anniversary Topbird.

Topbird Happy Anniversary to you and oh🦋❤️.  LB and Busy and Topbird have a great day.  I hope you get good weather.  Biglad I hope your plant recovers.  Ante the temperatures where you are have really dropped.  Time for an early Autumn layer.  Yvie I know, climate change is a global problem, some steps should have been taken years ago.  Also, we need to plant a lot of trees to absorb the carbon and we need more peat bogs.  Lily it’s good to hear poppet 3 enjoyed the garden.  Be careful taking the hanging baskets down.

Evening everyone - thank you for the good wishes. Tonight we're back in York where we were married 34 years ago (we only realised that well into the planning) and within 20 minutes walk of the centre. Have managed to blag a table at a Thai tapas restaurant (not a mean feat on a BH weekend) so we'll walk up there in a moment.

I've spent much of the day in York at a museum and mooching round the shops. It's absolutely heaving and full of what look like hen and stag parties🙄. I suspect that York has become much more of a party city since we left 25 years ago - and looks like it could get quite rough on the wrong night. Girls (un)dressed up to the nines tottering around on 6" heels and bouncers on the bar doors during the day on a Sunday suggests they're expecting some hard partying this weekend. Hopefully, we'll be in bed by 10....

Hope LB and BL both had lovely family days and I hope the weather was a bit warmer for both of you. It's sausage and mash weather here rather than salads - I've just donned a jumper.

    Hello all.

    Enjoy your anniversary dinner @Topbird

I'm back from a busy weekend.

The baptism went well, except baby Charles took a dim view of water being poured on his head! We went back to Son 1's house and enjoyed a party in the garden, plenty to eat and drink, caterers. Son had hired a bouncy castle, but it was a shark, not a castle, with an open mouth. The children loved it! There were lots of children, most of the family and friends had young families. Just the grandparents, of which I was one, and a couple of uncles and aunts were older. I left at 10.30pm as I had an hour's drive home.

This morning I got up and was about to grate carrots in the Magimix for Coleslaw when there was a power cut. Had to grate them by hand. I was rather panicky as my garden gate is electric. There is a key but I've never used it. Luckily the power came on just as I was loading the car with salads, presents (Son 1's birthday today) and books in English for the grandchildren. We had lunch in the garden, it was another lovely sunny day. There is quite a bit of salad left, even though some people took some home. I don't think there were as many people for lunch today as DIL thought there would be, maybe she counted small children. It was a good weekend, lovely to see so many family and in-laws.

  • Topbird enjoy your Thai tapas meal.  It sounds lively in York.  Love looking at the shops there. Busy glad your weekend went well.  You can rest tonight.  Hazel you and oh have been busy.  I like painting furniture.  I’ve been familiarising myself with my new phone.  Different from my last one and bigger.  I managed to get my contacts on and sent and received some texts.  LB I hope you’ve had a good day.  You may sleep like a log tonight.

Evening all. I am just back from an absolutely delightful day. I couldn't believe how some of my great nieces and great nephews had grown. I got the best of hugs from all of them. It was magic. We had a really chilled afternoon and I drove handy brother home afterwards as I'd picked him up first thing so he could enjoy a drink. The children all had fun in the hot tub whilst we adults looked on. Perfect! Like Busy, I was left with quite a bit of salad but it will feed me tomorrow. The weather was so kind to us too.
Hazel, I'm glad that you had a productive day, getting your garden furniture all stained and varnished.
SGL, I took down the last of my hanging baskets last week. They were looking so sad.
Biglad, what a shame but, as Hazel says, we have all experienced something like that at one time or another. It will recover but may look a little lopsided this season.
Yvie, I need to catch up as I haven't heard too much about that hurricane.
