Regarding your BS issue Marlorena, I have the same problem. My small mystery red rambler I bought last spring had no problems with BS whilst in a pot all summer, it flowered well, grew well; but in the ground this year it's covered in BS. Why is that. Stunning garden by the way with some beautiful plants, but it's getting a bit expensive for me, because every plant picture you put up I end up just having to buy it or seek to buy it.
.. @peteS .. sometimes they just grow better in a pot, at least for the first year.. but things change year on year, some better than others... disease issues arrived early this time..
... yeah, my bank balance isn't what it was either.. Carpe diem, I think is the appropriate expression..
..lol.. oh gosh thank you.. I think I should by paying them.. If they can fight their way through, they are unlikely to leave without a few cuts and scrapes.. I don't make it easy..
..one of the most easy care roses is 'Scented Garden'.. light musky scent, very healthy and can be a short climber, as here on an obelisk.. about 5.5 feet x 3 ... showing colour variations..
'Lady of Shalott' took a long time to establish in my Dry Garden, but is doing well. I even moved it at one point, then it sulked for 3 years.. huge blooms... sometimes scented of Tea, but if you stick your nose right in to the stamens, you should pick up a hint of cloves... very nice too..
I love the fresh green on the regular Sedum 'Autumn Joy'.. in my Dry Garden, north bed.. I never do Chelsea Chopping, and no need here in these droughty conditions..
..lots of yellows today.. ..difficult to photograph 'Tottering by Gently' on the obelisk, so I turned the camera and cropped.. it flowers all the way around it, virtually.. ..nice bloom on 'Vanessa Bell'.. one of my favourite roses.. Halimium libanotis.. this evergeen, perfect for drought conditions.. has a short season of flowering, but totally profuse.. the flowers open in the morning, when it's seen as its best.... and drop by mid afternoon..
..of the Halimium, Halimiocistus, Cistus groups.. this is the one I like best that I've grown... Cistus obtusifolius 'Thrive'.. it flowers all summer, I just shear off spent flowers and back it comes again.. it forms a mounding shrub.. best replaced after a few years from cuttings..
I do love your TbG, I admired it greatly last year and keep visiting it on DA's site but it is just too big..sigh. Please keep showing us yours. Botzaris is just dear, I couldn't imagine anything with that name could be so dolly but it is just gorgeous.
@Tack ..thank you Tack.. yes I've become quite fond of Tottering.. it's just so amenable..
.. some roses just opening up.. ..along my Potted Driveway, I have just 3 roses and 2 Salvias..
'Louise Odier'.. if ever there was a rose for someone new to roses, and wanted to try an Old Rose of distinction, then this is the one, as it flowers continuously until Autumn, deliciously scented and very easy to grow...
'Dr. O'Donel Browne'.. bicoloured 'Tahiti'.. ..in the Rose Island Bed, the first bloom on 'Francis Dubreuil'.. dark and sumptuous... Nollie's rose came out almost 2 months ago, which shows how far behind we are this Spring.. 'Mrs. Reynolds Hole'.. [Tea, Nabonnand 1900] another fine scented rose, more like a climbing Hybrid Tea to the modern eye.. large foliage, very leafy and vigorous..
went for Comte de Chambord for old rose flavour.. was looking for good fragrance and repeat flowering.. plus relatively compact.. Hope she does well.. not sure how she compares to your Louis Oldier in terms of flowering/fragrance.. Portland vs Bourbon
