Sorry about your Blush Noisette. I always forget to tie mine in as it's such an obliging rose standing neatly in front of the fence. I did have a few tall canes of William Lobb thrashing about in the border with the wind yesterday, shredding the nearby plants and I had to wade in with a couple of stakes.
Thanks for that Marlorena...how big does 'Gruss' grow, it's says 60cmx60cm on the label, but we all know that's always wrong. I never stop being amazed at the quality of plants sent from Trevor White, always healthy and strong growers. Even the Austin's I'm finding grow better from him than from DA themselves. I'm loving your two Bourbon's, Mme de Barny and the 'Commandant....', they've just been added to my wants list. Are they climbers, are they suitable for an obelisk, and do you think they are suitable to a more northern climate...rain tolerant etc.
@peteS .. allow 2.5 feet x the same, it's quite a compact rose.. agree about TW.. .. as for the two Bourbons.. Mme Lauriol de Barny copes reasonably well, but it's not great for any rose, and some buds will ball towards the end of the flowering period.. Yes they're both climbers suitable for northern areas I imagine, but I've not gardened further north than where I am now.. I've not grown CB before so it's a learning curve with this one.. Mme Lauriol de Barny I've grown on an obelisk... it will need to be 6 feet above ground minimum.. Trial and error, as always..
'Golden Beauty'... ..first bloom 'Wild Rover' on the arch.. first bloom 'Forever Royal'... 'Vanessa Bell' in the Rose Island Bed.. ..first bloom 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'.. back to normal, this rose always starts about this date.. 'Bathsheba'..
'Kew Gardens'.. 'Eustacia Vye'... ..first bloom 'Jardin des Tuileries'.. fruit scented.. a well foliated, shapely rose.. 'Scented Garden'.. Geranium cambridge varieties along the Dry River Bed..
..my new 'Ghislaine de Feligonde'.. ...a better shot of 'Forever Royal'... ..first flower on 'Sally Holmes'.. ..some buds on 'Nye Bevan'... ..I took this with my old camera.. I think it's better when the sun is strong..
.. oh that's sweet.. I wouldn't even charge for the cake.. my Victoria Sponge is rather nice.. Delia Smith recipe..
Pebble Beach .. I'm pleased with my new left rose border with 'Desdemona' top.. 'Jardin des Tuileries' centre and 'Erfurt' bottom, because I think they will go well together when mature.. ..'The Country Parson' is rather sniffable through the railings, and it's thorns don't catch me out.. .first bloom on 'Special Brother' [aka. 'Amethyst Star'.. this is a tip top rose.. highly scented, lovely olive green foliage, huge clusters of blooms and virtually thornless.. ..slow coach 'Gabriel Oak.. I love the dark centre on this rose.. Geranium sanguineum 'Apple Blossom'...
..the sumptuous 'Koenigen Van Danemark'.. [Queen of Denmark].. I have lots of Geranium x cantabrigiense varieties, and this is a more recent colour break, being on the pink side rather than mauve.. 'Crystal Rose'.. ..the overgrowing Beach path.. Geranium mag. 'Rosemoor'.. 'Cornelia'.. Chives.. .. making the most of dry weather...
..this is a mature Ghislaine de Feligonde with clematis Mme Julia Correvon.. the rose starts to flower about 2-3 weeks earlier than the clematis, so the rose is in full flush when the clematis starts.. as in the picture.. ..they were planted quite close together, but I wouldn't recommend that.. if I did it again I'd put them about 6 feet apart.. as you see the rose stretched to some 15 feet, maybe more, and I trained the clematis more to one side of the rose..
