A video of all our gardens sounds like a great idea.. I did one once here, and it's nice to hear the birds singing and hear the wind blowing..
.. just to continue with my little tour.. ..along the sunken river bed walk I pass my Potted Balcony roses and other bits and bobs in pots.. ...I use cheap plastic pots as I can't lift the ceramic ones here.. Queen of Denmark and Botzaris are in bloom... ..another fabulous scented bloom on 'Botzaris'.. it would probably be spoiled by heavy rain.. ..passing my 'Armada' obelisk which will look fabulous in a couple of weeks.. I arrive at my Tea Patio... we will be taking tea this morning as it's so nice again today, so I'm laying the table.. ..the background has been newly planted, so not mature until the Rose Fedge grows up a bit... further back is my Rose Enclosure.. ..looking back with the Enclosure on the right..
..I grow these huge Geranium oxoniamums 'Cream Chocolate' as a kind of Battlement Buttress to my Rose Fedge in the Tea Patio area.. they form a frontal border of about 20 feet long.. they are large, continuous flowering Geraniums that do seed about a bit and I have to hold them back somewhat from devouring everything else.. ..a recently opened flower.. .. in my Dry Garden I have another of this type, with perhaps a more interesting colour to the flowers.. 'Walter's Gift'...
..back to my Pebble Beach, early morning today.. on the right is normally my shady border but it does get good sun early and again from mid afternoon, so not totally without.. it enables my roses there to grow quite well.. ..this is a full shot of hybrid musk rose 'Cornelia' on my Divide border.. it seems steady at around 4 foot tall by about 8 wide.. will be a mass of bloom very soon.. Foxgloves self seed all around it.. ..in the Dry Garden, south bed.. 'Mme Antoine Mari' looking fresh this morning.. just love this rose.. the Dry Garden runs south to north, so this bed gets the fullest sun..
'Desdemona' has blooms of such purity at their best, which is early in the season I find.. later blooms are smaller and more rounded, less fine.. scented of Tea, today..
'Marie Nabonnand' [not available UK] has lots of blooms out now.. Aquilegia 'Blue Barlow' on the Enclosure... ..this Digitalis 'Camelot' is rather nice I think.. stockier and shorter than Excelsior. I love these leafy sepals on another Enclosure rose 'Mme Legras de St. Germain'..
I'm really pleased with my new 'Ghislaine de Feligonde' which replaces an established one I had which had to go unfortunately... lots of buds.. ..this is a young 'Aimee Vibert'.. I shall keep my eye on this as it's clearly taking off and going to be a vigorous rambler in time.. I hope I can cope with it, as it's part of my Rose Fedge.. 'Jude The Obscure' love the scent on this, and I'm wanting a large shrub from it in time.. ..another gorgeous bloom from 'Botzaris'..
..another warm day by our standards.. nearly 80 I think.. so that's nice..
..frilly pink blooms 'Marie Nabonnand'...
On the Enclosure..first bloom - over 2 weeks later than normal.. one of my favourite roses that I have always grown.. 'Mme. Lauriol de Barny'.. this is only half size but still a scent to die for.. ..it's growing with Hesperis matronalis, I use this a lot, both mauve and white versions.. ...'Vanessa Bell' in the Rose Island Bed, looking towards the hot Pebble Beach garden.. ..I had to move this Clematis so not many flowers this year.. 'Souvenir de Capitaine Thuilleaux'..
..back in the Dry Garden - north bed... Halimium libanotis looking its best right now.. this is so useful for hot dry depleted soils. .. it seems to go well with his Aubrieta which I think is 'Hamburg Stadtpark'.. ..this purple/pink Aubrieta has been in flower a long time.. I think it's one of the Regado series.. .in the central bed, Helianthemum 'Ben Ledi' is sparkling, I use this as a repeat throughout this bed.. ..along the Dry River Bed, I have these pots.. I have found French Lavender difficult but this 'Helmsdale' is rather good, it repeats flower well, and seems quite hardy..
