Thank you. I have this bed which is my herb bed (oregano, thyme, small bay tree, chives and previously also parsley there... and spreading mint). It's south and east facing, very sunny. Unimproved soil. On the other side of the bed, there is a flowering cherry, dwarf bamboo, small camellia that's seriously unhappy there (the cherry and the bamboo take all moisture) and two blueberries, which also aren't exactly happy unless I water them a lot. I am thinking about putting 'General Schablikine' where the blueberries are, I think it could be happy there. And I would need something very drought tolerant, sun-loving and low growing for underplanting. On the other hand, this area sometimes gets temporarily flooded in winter. The herbs are ok with it but maybe it would be too much for something like cistus. I'll have to think about it a bit more.
.. @edhelka ..you might find your Parahebe does well there... I have it all over this garden, in full sun, drought and shady moist places.. the only thing it can't take is temps worse than -8C as I noticed my plants suffered at that temp, which seems to be approaching its limits.. remember with Parahebe, you can just break off bits from the plant, 2 or 3 inches or so, and put them where you like... they should all take..
@owd potter ..sorry, I've just seen your post there..
yes.. Gruss an Aachen does have some light pink in the middle.. mine should be opening soon ... been raining here today, it wasn't forecast until it started...
...turned out nice again today.. after a fair bit of rain yesterday.. ..the simply scrumptious 'Carmen Wurth', which has stood up well to the rain so far.. I was concerned that it might not.. ..'The Country Parson' a bit weather beaten, but I cannot say enough about the fragrance, this is full on citrus with hints of something else, maybe myrrh?.. ..I'm inclined to say David Austin have done it again.. huge flowers on 'Tottering by Gently'.. and a most attractive bushy plant to go with it, with simply excellent foliage, top to toe..
..this baby rose is destined to become a Large Flowered Climbing rose of some generous dimensions... 'Sombreuil'.. [1950's U.S.] ..I couldn't resist picking off a delightful bloom from this rose.. pure white, with a light refreshing modern scent.. not strong, but enough for me to carry it around for some time.. I'm going to love this rose as part of the Rose Fedge.. ..nearby on the Rose Enclosure.. Hesperis matronalis gives me plenty of fragrance as I walk past.. ..roses coming out on the Enclosure.. there are 8 different varieties for me to enjoy here. ..also in this area is a favourite Aquilegia 'Yellow Queen'..
..this is a rather muddled and untypical first bloom from 'Marie van Houtte'.. which is a Tea rose from yesteryear.. the scent smells quite fresh to me, not tea so far.. it can only get better when the blooms will be fuller and similar to Mme Antoine Mari which I show a lot.. 'Marie Nabonnand' in full flush.. Geranium 'Biokovo' a popular variety of this type, along the rail path.. some Dry Garden colour.. I rather like this shot.. Lavender 'Helmsdale'.
'Lady of Shalott'... Allium 'Mt. Everest'.. I like to watch the bees swirling around these... they also have a pleasant scent.. C. Souvenir de Capitaine Thuilleaux.. ..self seeded Poppies.. I have this odd area off my driveway I call The Spur.. as it's shaped like one, it includes my Greenhouse. I have 'Sally Holmes' and 'Golden Beauty' roses in it, plus Parahebe 'Avalanche..
I can't resist 'Carmen Wurth'.. this rose has the most perfect, blemish free, foliage I've ever had in a modern rose.. Tottering with C. 'Belle of Woking'... 'Florence Ducher'... this rose is perfect in every way except one, which I shall detail another time... ..down the Dry River Bed..

... yes, I don't do anything to those, I think the whole point of dry and gravel gardening is that you use thrifty plants..
I really only feed the roses and clematis..
Not so warm out there today...
