    Well I blame Monty Don for that version that stuck in my head, he named it that way in an old book of his I have, but I agree, QofD is much easier! Yes, you’re right we do get winter chill, often severe, but short periods. I suspect the only way I will know is to try it. FD was one of the sickly specimens from you know who, so that might be why it’s taking it’s time, hopefully it will pick up.

    All the photos are just lovely — that is a great posy too! And very interesting about your MW in alkaline soil.

    @Marlorena would Desdemona do well in a pot in full (quite baking hot) sun?

    ..thanks everyone..

    @Imprevu
    ..thanks, it is nice.. it's certainly growing on me that Clematis.. gets quite tall..
    yes, Florence D is thornless... I can't find one on it.. and the scent is divine..

    @Athelas
    ..yes, but it will need watering every night during such conditions as these at the moment..  she produces larger clusters of blooms on the 2nd flush, but each bloom is smaller, more globular..

    Remember, DA roses cannot get enough water during summer.. you cannot over water them when growing well, they do respond to it..

    @Nollie
    ..what I like about once bloomers is that, once the flowering is over, you don't have to worry any more, no feeding, no watering if they're in the ground.. well not here.. no fussing waiting for blooms..  if in a pot, they can disappear or blend in somewhere.. they often have nice foliage..
    I wouldn't want a garden full of them though..

    Great photos Marlorena. Everything looks lovely and fresh. Especially love your Francis D and Tahiti for their vibrant colours.
