I must say I’ve been very impressed with your Bathsheaba.. and I agree it looks like one of those wedding roses bred for cutting. Exquisite! The blooms look rather large too.
My first bloom on 'Gruss an Aachen' Marlorena...beautiful colour and a stunning smell. Not a drop of rain here as yet, so I'm enjoying my unblemished roses whilst I can.
.. @peteS .. almost a perfect looking rose isn't it?.. no wonder Mr Austin admired it so..
I have a pinky one coming out like that but not quite as nice as yours..
.. [lol.. sorry, what I typed there struck me as funny..]
..moving on.. after 6 hours non stop deluge, I'm struggling for glam shots.. ..this was 'Crazy In Love' just before the downpours.. ..and a few moments ago... stood up well I'd say.. white's can go awful in rain.. ...totally rainproof.. 'Golden Beauty'.. 'Jude The Obscure' has been trying to open all day.. ..and 'Heritage'...
.. the Pebble Beach garden never gets flooded, water drains right through.. so always looks in reasonable shape.. 'Scepter'd Isle' a David Austin rose.. 'Desdemona' a bit bedraggled today.. 'Armada' good in all weathers.. ..looking back... not too bad, considering..
@Eustace ...yes I do Eustace, each day I do a few here and there, so it never builds up too much.. the key for me is to never let a rose get too big, so I can always keep on top of it.. I don't have anything here that's rampant, I couldn't possibly cope with it..
..also, I favour the shearing method, I only cut back to a bud on certain roses, most times they get sheared off..
Monty on GW is a fan of the shearing method I've noted to keep things in check; there's not much finesse when it comes to his pruning methods we're lead to believe. Thank you for your comments on 'Gruss an Aachen'; it's early days but it is looking and smelling like a perfect rose. I'm loving your 'Armada', but unfortunately it's not the easiest rose to track down and order. Not wishing to impinge on your expertise too much, but it's a question I asked on the other site with no success, but have you any ideas as to what this rose might be below. It's one I noticed growing and flowering in my local park the other day.
