@peteS .. oh lovely roses... that Lady of the Lake is a beauty isn't it?.. and I'm so pleased your GT has taken off for you.. we just have to be patient some times..
.. cooler day today but warming up tomorrow... I've not been around much today, had a slight accident, no worries... and besides there isn't much to photograph today although I managed nearly 50 pictures, of which I've whittled down a half dozen or so..
'Cornelia' isn't fazed by anything except prolonged drought, like most roses, but she will shut up shop if going too long without some moisture at the roots..
..that Verbascum seeded there, so I thought to just leave it be.. going to be a tall one.. Anthemis 'Tinpenny Sparkle' is quite a sparkler I think.. Geranium 'Jean Armour'... French Lavender 'Helmsdale' is worth having..
'Mrs. Paul'.. an old Bourbon rose that flowers well in autumn too.. 'Wild Blue Yonder'... 'Jude The Obscure' is taking a long time to get going, but I like it at this stage too.. ..I love the foliage colour on these Gaura 'Pink Dwarf'.. Lavenders will be taking over the Dry Garden frontage very soon.. .. a summer border without Anthemis 'E.C. Buxton' is unthinkable for me..
Beautiful Jude the Obscure @Marlorena. I'm beginning to think that mostly ( not the singles ) ... I prefer blooms at the one-third to two-thirds open stage vs fully open....
..as low as 7C here last night, ridiculous for the time of year... I bet they had a frost in coldest areas..
.. my scented rose today, to take with me on my travels around the garden.. .. a bloom of 'Eustacia Vye'.. 'Heritage'... it's a rare Austin that establishes in the first year, as this one does actually.. 'Wild Blue Yonder'.. I'm delighted with this colourful rose.. 'Lady of Shalott'... Geranium 'Russell Prichard'...
Berberis 'Bagatelle' in the Dry Garden.. ..Lavenders take over now on my road frontage... this is Lavender angustifolia no. 9.. long flowering and compact.. ..a quiet corner near the Enclosure.. .. I don't like a swamped arch so much, I prefer to see something of the outline.. 'Wild Rover' suits me, it doesn't overwhelm, I love this rose, despite its tendency to black spot in August.. scented of cloves..
I've been out all day today, visiting Mannington Hall and gardens in north Norfolk, right out in the deepest rural country.. and we had a pleasant day too with tea and cake. We've been coming here since about 1988 on and off.. so it wasn't new to us..
It's noted not only for the old Hall but the parkland, wilderness areas and Old Rose gardens of Heritage Roses, most of which were planted or obtained from Peter Beales..
So my photos today come from there, I'll post a few each day.. it is a moated Manor House with considerable history going back to the Civil War..
..footbridge across the Moat..
..front entrance.. ..around the back.. 'Wedding Day'...
..some Latin inscriptions on the walls.. ..in the plant sales area lots of lovely DA roses.. about £25 each.. ..and some from Beales.. ..with companion plants..
