The RHS dismay me at times, also GW with their frequent dismissal of roses, as if they are just another plant to put in somewhere..  they're part of history and the cultures of diverse peoples for thousands of years..  they are not just another plant like Chives or something..
However, with RHS Bridgewater, perhaps they intend to add more this winter.. I see they have 'Strawberry Hill' in a community garden - well that's a start..

.. I follow them on Instagram, and also National Trust at Hidcote, which is famed for its roses, like Sissinghurst, yet what do I read on their page recently? showing a picture of Rosa glauca, it says...

''Rosa glauca is perhaps another good rose for those of us who don’t really like roses!''

..and this from a gardener at Hidcote of all places..

.. Nye Bevan is doing ok.. I think it'll be a good rose in time, if it repeats well..

.. yes I agree about Rose of Sharon, should come with a warning, like lots of plants really..  once we've got them it can be difficult to be rid...  I've been trying to get shot of Ranunculus 'Brazen Hussey' for nearly 10 years.. and also a Yucca that keeps popping up..

... yours is at least upright... mine started yesterday and is a floppy thing, I wonder why I'm keeping it.. it was good last year in the greenhouse but it's all over the place outside.. I think it will be better with age when it's taller, so I'm keeping it as it has a nice scent..

... I read that just as a plant suggestion for some people who don't like roses. Maybe the 'us' here are the readers.

Perhaps in its history there was a great emphasis on roses and now things are widening out... or that is the perception ...?
