@cooldoc ..thank you.. that's kind, although I'm taking a break now for a couple of weeks, or I might call it a day as I usually do this time of year, so I'll be back on the Rose thread..
.. Hume's Blush isn't a rose I could recommend to anyone, other than a collector who has a large garden for these types of roses.. it's always blooming with one or two but they do not stand up to rain, droop and are quite flimsy... not very photogenic either.. .. I think it's a rose for the greenhouse bench, as a novelty.. there is doubt about its authenticity also for the rose offered under this name here.. it may be an old Tea rose called 'Caroline de Rosny'.. and that wouldn't surprise me actually, as so many of these obscure roses have incorrect i.d's..
..there's better fish to fry and everyone has so many interesting and good roses on the other thread, that are new to me too..
A brilliant, inspirational thread once again. Thank you.
Early days, of course, but of all the new roses you have trialled this year, which are your winners so far? Maybe a question for your return! Enjoy your break.
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
..thanks Nollie... there are quite a few.. so let me put them in some order..
Once blooming Old Rose - 'Queen of Denmark' undoubtedly..
Repeat blooming Old Rose - 'Marie van Houtte'.. upright, good foliage, healthy, continuous bloom, tea scent, compact so far... creamy white, tinged pink in hot weather..
Modern climber - 'Chawton Cottage'.. unusual, good growth but does get some black spot about now..
Austin - 'Heritage'.. a winner from the word go..
Austin, after 3 years.. 'Tottering by Gently'.. this is my new found love affair.. it's just perfect for my 6 foot obelisk.. and flowers continuously..
Modern shrub - 'Wild Blue Yonder'.. coping with poor conditions as if it didn't matter.. ..oh gosh, how could I leave out 'Golden Beauty'.. just wonderful in every way so far..
Floribunda - 'So Crazy In Love'... pure white, and scented.. elegant buds, good foliage.. little known breeder..
Polyantha - I'm hugely impressed with 'Nathalie Nypels'.. the foliage is perfect and semi glossy and it's producing large clusters.. scented too..
Old Hybrid Tea.. 'Dr. O'donel Browne' ex-Roseraie Ducher.. similar colour to Chartreuse de Parme, whilst the scent not as strong, and it balls in wet, in dry conditions this is a superlative HT, and wonderful for vases so this is a keeper for me.. not available UK unfortunately..
Newer HTea.. 'Prince Jardinier', which is available here, is one I want for next year, if I don't get it before..
Recently acquired - I think 'Tall Story' bodes well for the future, really impressed so far and from what I've heard about it..
Great question Nollie, it's such fun to answer and I look forward to everyone's personal updates on the Roses thread too..
Gosh yes, joining in the comments of appreciation. Thank you @Marlorena, you can probably guess that I owe you a lot for the pleasure my roses give me. You have been so generous with your time, garden and expertise.
I am so glad you rate Golden Beauty, I ordered it from TW a few days ago.
