Adrian... yeah you can use tea  bags, that's what I do... just cut them open and rummage into the soil around the rose... sometimes I tip the contents out the bags, as the casings take a long time to decompose with some of them, but othertimes I just leave them..   any tea is fine !..  as long as you've had a good drink of it first ... I believe you can use them for potted roses too but I've not done that..

I'd completely forgotten about the tea leaves, did it last year on your recommendation but have been putting them in the compost all winter. I'll start again.

What a treat to find this thread @Marlorena . Your garden is looking really gorgeous, so interesting too what you put with the roses. It is a lesson too in how effective varying the heights can be.
I have found the tea leaf aphid-preventative really works. Strawberry Hill is an aphid magnet and I left it a bit late with the scattering. The rose was really affected but after very heavy tea dosing they went. My pots though... But I have started on those now.

..thank you.. I've just been admiring yours on the other thread..  best of luck with the tea leaves... Science says it works, but with so many roses, not many of mine can get the treatment.. and it's easy to forget or not bother..   it doesn't do any harm, that I can say for sure..

Thanks @Marlorena How much of it do you apply per rose and how often do you repeat it? I’m bit obsessive in nature and tend to overdo things.. like my fertilisers..

I might actually start to scavenge my work place kitchen for all the spent tea bags from now on..

...I collect about 20 used bags in a bowl... we drink a fair bit of tea so it doesn't take long to accumulate..  take bowl to chosen rose, I often pick a rose I haven't treated before..  snip each bag in half, tip contents out around rose.. dispose of bags [they can blow around], then rummage the tea into the soil..  job done.  As your roses are potted, I probably wouldn't use more than two treatments, per rose, per season.. at a guess..
With large roses in the ground, I'll use it anytime..

I wouldn't want to overdo it with pots because of the concentrated area..  see how you get on Adrian.

Thank you so much. I’ll give it a go. The aphids seem to have descended en masse on my roses lately..
