'Gabriel Oak'... smaller blooms but the scent is wonderful today... of cloves, from both the stamens and petals.. 'Tottering by Gently'.. this has set masses of hips which I shall leave on.. exquisite bloom on 'Gruss an Aachen'.. 'New Zealand'.. this has recovered with good foliage.. I shall probably keep it, it was earmarked for removal.. 'Blush Noisette'.. recovering from storm damage earlier.. 'Heritage'.. a very good Austin with strong scent, and quick to repeat..
...whatever happened to summer and the heatwave we were promised... ? cool, cloudy again today.. ..frilly 'Tahiti'.. 'Wild Blue Yonder'.. 'Vanessa Bell'... easily mistaken for Nye Bevan like this.. 'Blush Noisette'.. Aster 'Monch'.. ..reflowering Veronica 'Marietta'.. 'Vanessa Bell' in the foreground.. a pale shadow of last year when in a pot.. needs copious watering and feeding to look its best.. like so many Austins.. 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'... bit short of water in the Dry Border..
@Marlorena lots of people are looking in to see if you have posted anything new ! Your tahiti looks stunning, but with so crazy in love and a midsummer nights dream already on the wishlist I do not think I have room....unless I move...
Oh yes, @Marlorena, I always read your posts even if I don't respond very often. Your Blush Noisette looks similar to my 'The Fairy ' which I'm now regretting planting in the middle of my border. It's grown much larger than anticipated and flops everywhere. Does your Blush do the same?
@Lizzie27 ..yes I understand The Fairy is something of a ground cover rose, so it will flop... Blush Noisette will grow freestanding but it's quite rangy and broad but it can be kept to about 6 x 6 feet in an upright manner with pruning... in my windy conditions I have to give it support as it can be a touch unruly.. and I like to keep it within arms reach to deadhead the spent flowers, as they hang around and don't look nice... I just run my fingers through them to dislodge.. doesn't take long.. The scent wafts nearby I find, which is nice..
..despite the continuing dull weather, some nice fragrant blooms for today.. 'Donatella'.. 'Dr. O'Donel Browne'.. 'New Zealand'.. this rose is growing on me.. I didn't like it earlier.. 'Gabriel Oak'.. 'Eustacia Vye'.. 'Bathsheba'... I find this rose has a failing in that the blooms go over quick, and I can't wait to snip them off at that point.. but I think they are quite beautiful when the first open..
I like striking hot colours here and there.. and don't mind too much if they clash.. Alonsoa 'Rebel'.. a tender perennial.. ..developing hips on Tottering by Gently.. the plant is a whole mass of these as I stop deadheading at this point.. ..'Cornelia'.. I like it because it's thornless and always repeats well.. 'Desdemona'.. surely the best Austin white.. ..still some colour going on in this area..
Your garden is just so lovely @Marlorena, I'm another who opens this thread first if there is a new post by you. I'm glad you like New Zealand better now, I've been enjoying mine a lot. I share your views about Blush Noisette and Bathsheba amongst others.
