@Desi_in_London Lovely foliage. Want to see how your 'Easy does it' comes out.
@Pianoplayer I have 'Ab Fab' in a pot, but in its first year. Marlorena has it in ground and it has grown huge for her. You can check the pics she posted in Helpmefind as well.

  • @newbie77 - re soil -- the pots are large ( chandos beauty and ab fab must be in 60-70cm type pots, similar height as diameter) and when i planted the bare roots in Jan , i mounded the compost somewhat in the middle to plant. Idea was to put some small bedding ( still to do )  around the edges until roses are big enough to take the space. In the meantime the doing bits of weeding ( chickweed/ scrappy allium like stuff etc ) has removed some compost - idea is to top dress next dormant season as they grow, not repot. Easy does it a bit different in sense is in a smaller ( still big , 40 cm ) pot but although i'll top dress it in winter , it will eventually be re-potted in a year or two. I suspect the pic angle and relative pot size is maybe making you think its less growing media volume than the reality.
Kindness is always the right choice.
  • @Pianoplayer my ab fab ( also year 1 ) is in a big pot too , and I did do some looking around before i bought - no website said definitely don't put in a pot and size ( in a pot!) should be manageable.
@cooldoc easy does it was a whim purchase for me after having seen someone's photos on this thread - I too am looking forward to what the colour looks like in real life - I've seen quite different shades of orange online for it ( at least to my eyes).
Kindness is always the right choice.

Great news re your Ena @Fire, looks like the gamble paid off. The dark hellebore and red rose is a gorgeous combination.

I’m looking forward to seeing your standard Marie Pavie in bloom, @ edhelka, I’m really pleased I got two to flank the doorway - as they are in pots, I don’t have to bend down to get the fragrance.

@Imprevu, welcome! Well a climbing rose suitable for an arch, repeat flowering, fragrant, few thorns, can take shade, flexible canes, not too tender for your Belgian Winters... how about creamy white Mme. Alfred Carriere? If you crop your photos around the edge a little, that usually works to get them the right way up, look forward to seeing your roses.

@Desi_in_London, its alright then. Your roses, specially Ab Fab will have plenty of flowers this year too.

I was just wondering if anyone had tried this concoction from Westland for the purposes it says on the bag. I must admit I'm not a lover of their composts, they all just seem lacking in loam or body and are just made up of a dry fibrous, lightweight material, as is this...a bit like MP, and certainly doesn't give the impression that it could sustain a rose long term.

@Desi_in_London You roses are looking really healthy.. I’ve got serious foliage envy.. You’d be surprised how many flowers a rose can still produce in its first year. Feed weekly with tomato feed (ideally with some seaweed extract) once the first buds appear.

I don’t really bother creating a collage.. I think it’s nicer to have the full sized pictures so they could be enjoyed in their entirety.. yes it does take up more space on the page but..
